Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position:
With broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, is responsible for non-medical functions relating directly to patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assists in planning and organizing the operations of the Department of Admissions; performs related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Responsible for the performance of all admissions functions including liaison between the Admissions Office and the Medical-Surgical staff; liaison with the hospital support staff including Medical Records, Housekeeping, Dietary and Nursing relating to the scheduling of admissions, bed availability and utilization. 2. Establishes operational goals, record management and forms control and informational programs. 3. Conducts departmental management studies, including studies of organization, methods and procedures. 4. Makes recommendations regarding modifications and improvement of systems. 5. Responsible for the prompt and accurate completion of all admission and preadmission forms. 6. Supervises collection of data on condition and status of patients. 7. Maintains patient roster and control of visitors. 8. Directs administrative and clerical functions relating to processing of patient registration. 9. Responsible for census control involving the compiling and maintenance of accurate patient census, bed availability and collection of all related statistics. 10. Directs the functions for receiving and processing of advance notifications of patients' admissions and discharges. 11. Directs the processing of inter and intra hospital transfers. 12. Supervises initial control of patient's clothing, property and valuables. 13.Assists in preparation and administration of Admission Department's budget. 14.Plans, assigns and reviews work of subordinates and is responsible for a satisfactory completion of assigned activities. 15.Prepares work schedules and insures compliance with procedures and policies. Minimum Qualifications 1. A Baccalaureate Degree issued upon the completion of a four-year course in Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience in a progressively responsible supervisory or administrative position, performing admissions duties, in a hospital or similar institution with one-hundred-and-fifty or more beds; or, 2. High school Diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a High School Equivalency Diploma plus five years of full-time experience as described in (1) above; or, 3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
