Job Description

BASIS Independent Manhattan Upper is seeking qualified candidates for a College Admissions Counselor position for immediate hire! What We're Looking For The primary role of the College Admissions Counselor is to provide dedicated support to our high school students in navigating the college and career planning process. This entails conducting regular meetings with individual students, group sessions, and engaging with parents and college representatives to ensure comprehensive student readiness and success. This role also requires coordinating Senior Projects, an optional opportunity for students to participate in during their 12th grade year. Responsibilities Working closely with an assigned caseload of individual students on all aspects of the college search, application, and financial aid processes Writing and editing individualized letters of recommendation summarizing each student's upper school experience within the appropriate context and providing appropriate follow-up for each applicant Meeting with families about the college search, application, and financial aid processes, and the individual needs of their students Collaborating with other members of the team to develop and implement thoughtful, effective college counseling strategies, innovative programming, and best practices in the context of BASIS Independent Manhattan Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with parents, faculty & staff, administrators, and college admission professionals Continuously seeking professional development in the field of college admission and college counseling Various college counseling projects, as assigned, including coordinating Senior Projects Other duties as assigned Position Qualifications Experience working in a high school, at least two years as a College Counselor; experience with
SCOIR. A
bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree is preferred. A successful applicant must demonstrate a high level of academic attainment and experience working in a high school or other academic setting. Beyond this, strong communication skills in speaking with parents, students, admissions officers and colleagues are essential as is the ability to elicit (not simply edit) competitive application essays and write exceptional letters of recommendation. Finally, a successful applicant will be flexible and work well in a fast-moving team environment.
