DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This position is to assist the Cultural Coordinator in efforts to preserve the Gila River Indian Community Culture and Language. This position will assist the Cultural Coordinator in providing training and materials to Head Start Program staff, children and families at assigned Program Centers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Work closely with the Cultural Coordinator to assist, prepare and implement developmentally and age appropriate Culture Curriculum lesson plans and activities for children. Assist the Cultural Coordinator by working closely, as assigned, with the Coordinators and Tribal Education Department to ensure compliance to Head Start and Tribal requirements.  Work closely with teachers in assigned Centers to incorporate Culture and Language in all areas; language, literacy, science, math, social, physical, health, safety, nutrition. Form and instruct a dance group at assigned Centers in age appropriate dance and prepare for cultural performances as requested.  Make regular observations of assigned children to document progress with language and culture. Prepare monthly reports for Cultural Coordinator regarding this progress and any barriers faced.  Follow referral procedures to report suspected abuse/neglect/maltreatment and other social service related incidents and for children and families needing assistance through established regulations, policies and procedures.  Assist the Cultural Coordinator to develop and implement appropriate Culture and Language training and activities opportunities for Program Families, including but not limited to; songs, dance, storytelling, beading, pottery, painting, traditional gardening and cooking, and traditional building.  Assist Program Culture Coordinator to conduct Annual Legend Nights.  Assist with Elder Gatherings, Center Culture Teacher meetings and trainings, staff meetings and trainings; participate in Community and Parent Committee meetings and events as assigned.  Maintain confidentiality of children, Parents/Guardians and staff.  Participate in staff meetings, on-going professional, pre-service, in-service training and field related workshops and conference.
