Full Job Description Job Description:
This position is responsible for supporting the summer and after-school training of high school-aged Teens on Target (TNT) youth leaders, mentoring and supporting those youth to succeed in the program, and for facilitating violence prevention workshops at middle schools, high schools, and community organizations. This is a full-time position that reports to the Teens on Target Program Coordinator. Teens on Target (TNT), launched in 1989, is the only comprehensive (gun, gang, family and dating) violence prevention peer education and leadership program for high school youth in Oakland and the only program that reaches middle school youth with peer-led comprehensive violence prevention workshops that help them make better decisions about their health and well-being. TNT — using the youth-created six-session TNT Curriculum — has trained over 1,000 high school students living in neighborhoods with high rates of violence to be violence prevention peer educators and positive role models. TNT members, in turn, have led violence prevention workshops for 45,000 middle and high school students. TNT members also advocate for specific school or local policies that relate to youth violence, such as their successful campaign to get the Oakland Tribune to stop printing advertisements for guns.
25% Present/implement violence prevention workshops at school and community sites on: gun violence, gang and turf violence, family violence, dating violence and sexual assault Prepare all necessary materials for workshops Assist TNT Program staff in updating curriculum and educational materials Maintain and build relationships with school representatives (at all sites) Supervise TNT Members/peer educators in their presentations of the Teens on Target Peer-Led Violence Prevention Curriculum in local schools Oversee presenter schedule, permission slips, and other logistics related to middle school presentation sessions
After School Youth Leadership Program & Mentoring:
40% Assist in the planning and facilitation of TNT meetings and other TNT events/activities Lead recruitment and outreach efforts for new TNT members/youth leaders at the beginning of each school year at all sites Provide transportation for peer educators to & from presentations and to other TNT-related events & activities Mentor and have regular check-ins with TNT Youth Leaders at all sites
Documentation:
10% Administer, collect and analyze surveys, pre-post tests and other workshop evaluation tools Complete and submit documentation of workshops and other program-related paperwork in a timely and thorough manner Track and document community engagement activities, including but not limited to the Cityspan database platform Document one on one mentoring opportunities, and all other contacts with clients Pull student grades and attendance records for all
TNT Youth Leaders Community Engagement:
15% Participate in violence prevention efforts with other providers as assigned Maintain and build collaborative relationships within the school community at all sites Represent program and agency at meetings as assigned
Professional Development:
10% Attend weekly TNT Team meetings Participate in regular supervision meetings Participate in bi-weekly agency staff meetings Participate in agency retreats/trainings Seek out opportunities for professional development, participate in relevant trainings to grow as a trauma informed care practitioner Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
Experience and commitment to working with at-risk youth Passionate interest in violence prevention Must have insured, reliable car, license & DMV clearance Flexibility to work some evenings & weekends; late afternoon availability required Verbal & written communication skills Punctual & extremely reliable Must be able to present self and program in a highly professional manner Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, independently and be able to accept supervision Bilingual Spanish/English a plus but not required Familiarity with Castlemont, Fremont, and Skyline high schools / Oakland public schools a plus Responds well to supervision and feedback High school diploma or GED required;
B.A./B.S.
preferred; students currently attending college are encouraged to apply. Must pass Live Scan & OUSD background check, as this position works with minors Applicants with personal experience in overcoming violence/ violence-related injuries/ the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Salary and Benefits:
$29-32 per hour DOE (equivalent to $60,320-$66,560 annually). Full time non-exempt position; occasional nights and weekends required.
