Victim/Witness Advocate I :

Under the direction of the Victim/Witness Coordinator, acts as an advocate on behalf of victims and witnesses, providing a liaison with law enforcement agencies, attorneys and the court system. Makes referrals and provides counseling and crisis intervention as necessary; assists with the preparation of cases for trial. Prepares and submits required reports. Acts as liaison between victims of crime and case prosecutors, law enforcement and advocacy agencies. Provides crisis intervention, paraprofessional counseling and appropriate referrals as needed. Victim/Witness Advocate I | Victim/Witness Advocate II Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12 th ) grade. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.Victim Witness Advocate I:
Up to two years of formal education (equating to a minimum of 60 college credits) beyond high school and a minimum of one (1) year experience in an office environment. Experience in areas of counseling, crisis intervention, social services, criminal justice, or sociology related field preferred.Victim Witness Advocate II:
Three years of experience as a Victim Witness Advocate I or equivalent classification or one year of experience as a Victim Witness Advocate I or equivalent classification and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Services, Speech and Communications, Psychology, Criminal Justice or a closely related field is preferred.License and Special Requirements:
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.Victim Witness Advocate I:
Must possess or be able to obtain within one (1) year, an entry-level Victim Advocate Certificate.Victim Witness Advocate II:
Must possess or be able to obtain within one (1) year, an Advanced Victim Advocate Certificate. The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Victim/Witness Advocate I/II, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list. New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
