ABOUT TEMPLE BETH SHOLOM
Temple Beth Sholom (TBS) is a growing, creative, and rooted Jewish community charting a new path in congregational life. Embracing creativity, inclusion, human-centered design, and climate resilience, TBS is becoming known for forward-thinking approaches to Jewish community and education. We are seeking a leader to direct our programs for children and their families - from infancy through adolescence - with vision, entrepreneurial spirit, organizational acumen, and interpersonal skill.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Education provides vision and leadership for all of TBS's children's and family programs, from preschool through teen engagement. Reporting to the Executive Director and collaborating closely with clergy and the Education Committee, this senior role balances strategic direction with hands-on program delivery, staff mentorship, and family engagement. The Director oversees a vibrant educational ecosystem, beginning with our play-based Jewish preschool and extending through a five-day after-school program rich in Hebrew and Jewish Studies (TK-5th). The portfolio includes seasonal day camps, the B' Mitzvah Journey, and a burgeoning teen program. Beyond the classroom, the Director facilitates youth and family holiday services and Shabbat experiences. Looking ahead, this leader will have the creative freedom to design and launch new programming tailored to infants, toddlers, and their families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and oversee all children's and family programs, ages 0-18, ensuring high quality, mission-alignment, and joyful learning experiences Oversee the preschool program, including licensing compliance, curriculum, enrollment, and family communications Oversee the after-school program, B' Mitzvah and teen programs, camps, and support youth religious services Partner with the Executive Director, Rabbi, Cantor, and Education Committee to shape TBS's educational vision, curricular goals, and policies Manage program budgets, scheduling, safety protocols, and administrative operations Cultivate strong relationships with families and integrate school programs into the broader congregational community Support a welcoming, inclusive environment for diverse and neurodivergent learners Provide educational expertise to staff, families, and Board Participate in key community events, including some evenings and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Child Development, Jewish Studies, or a related field Minimum 4 years of professional experience in an educational setting across multiple age groups, with growth in responsibility Experience managing programs and supervising staff Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills Commitment to inclusion, equity, and TBS's community values
Highly Desirable:
Jewish educational experience (religious school, preschool, camp, day school, or youth programming) Early childhood education certification (e.g., Child Development Permit or equivalent) Experience with neurodivergent learners and inclusive program design
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base Salary:
$80,000 - $93,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
Performance Bonus:
Up to 10% annual bonus based on enrollment and retention milestones.
Additional Perks:
Earn up to 5 additional "Performance PTO" days annually.
