Child Development Assistant Schedule:
Tuesday - Thursday 10:00 am-7:00 pm Friday - Saturday 8:00 am-5:00 pm
Position Summary:
The Child Development Assistant reports to the Child Development Coordinator and provides daily oversight of female offender/child interactions in the child care program.
Essential Job Functions:
Supervise participants in separate areas in the Child Care Center (infants, toddlers and pre-school age). Ensure that participants do not work in the child care program more than four (4) hours a day and that work in the child care center must be rotated among all participants. Assist Child Development Coordinator in developing individual Child Treatment Plans. Provide structured mother-child activities. Provide childcare, and supervise mothers working in the child care program. Provide modeling activities for mothers to emulate while learning to properly care for their children. Assist in the implementation of the Child Treatment Plan; maintain records and logs of children's activities; noting developmental milestones and observable problems and achievements. Participate in daily shift exchange.
Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills including good writing skills; Attention to detail; Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; Ability to work well in a team environment; Superior organizational skills; Strong computer skills, to encompass all Microsoft Office applications; Knowledge of substance abuse and treatment is desired; Public speaking at community service programs; Valid California driver's license and proof of personal auto insurance required; hiring is contingent upon agency insurability. Must be able to pass a criminal history background screening and receive clearance from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; as well as maintain a yearly CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and Tuberculosis test results.
Education:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED), and minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children in an agency/program/child care setting
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office; a residential treatment setting; and Some outdoor activities may be required; Transportation of participants to appointments; The ability to work in a stressful environment with female inmates within the confines of the Department of Corrections guidelines is required; Travel to meetings in the community, CDCR trainings, and public speaking engagements.
Physical Demands:
Occasional lifting more than 10 pounds; Occasional risk of intensive physical activity with clients and children; and Sitting, standing, walking, reaching are performed in the normal course of the position; Transportation of clients and children in company vehicle. Must be able to pass the following pre-employment screenings: Background check, including criminal history (LA CADA considers all applicants equally and will take into account each applicant's individual life circumstances).
