POSITION OVERVIEW
Position Type:
Part-Time (6-10 hours/week, with occasional additional hours)
Schedule:
Wednesday early evenings and Saturday mornings required
Compensation:
$23-$25/hour, non-exempt and overtime-eligible under California law

Parks and public outdoor spaces throughout

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Bilingual Nature Play Leader assists with the delivery of Wiggle Worms Nature Play, a free outdoor playgroup for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Funded through the First 5 Sacramento Diversity in Action Grant, this program increases equitable access to early learning opportunities for families across Sacramento County. The Bilingual Nature Play Leader helps create welcoming play environments, supports children and caregivers during activities, and assists with setup, materials, and program logistics. Bilingual fluency is essential to this role. Many of the families we serve speak languages other than English as their primary language at home, and meaningful engagement, whether welcoming a new family, explaining an activity, or supporting a child in the moment, depends on the ability to communicate clearly and warmly in their language. Bilingual staff members help ensure that every family feels seen, included, and fully able to participate.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Program Delivery and Development Assist the Program Specialist with weekly Wiggle Worms Nature Play sessions Engage with children and caregivers in a warm, supportive manner Encourage exploration, creativity, and social interaction during play Model positive play interactions and support caregiver engagement Support children with varying developmental needs Lead activities under the guidance of the Program Specialist Provide feedback on program activities, materials, and family engagement to support continuous improvement Assist with adapting or translating program materials and communications for multilingual families Share observations about participant needs, interests, and community trends to inform future programming Program Support Assist setting up of program materials and maintain supplies Support tracking of program attendance and participant data Maintain clean and safe learning environments Support clean up, organization, and sanitization of materials General Duties Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities Serve as a positive, inclusive ambassador for the museum's mission in all community interactions Schedule Must be available on Wednesday early evenings and Saturday mornings Occasional training or professional development during traditional workday hours and on weekends Specific schedules may vary by program needs and will be communicated in advance when possible. The Wonder Grove reserves the right to modify schedules based on organizational requirements Physical Requirements This role requires active participation in outdoor play environments and direct supervision of children.
Essential abilities include:
Lift/carry 35 lbs Stand/move for extended periods Bend, squat, kneel, sit on the ground Work outdoors in varying weather See and hear sufficiently to monitor children, ensure participant safety, and respond to emergencies Recognize and respond quickly to safety risks and emergency situations involving children and program participants Reasonable accommodations will be provided consistent with applicable law to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Associate's degree or higher in Early Child Education, Child Development, Education or related field OR equivalent experience Minimum 2 years of experience working with children birth to age 5 in an education, childcare, or informal learning environment Bilingual required (Spanish preferred or other languages commonly spoken by families) Strong verbal communication skills, ability to connect with families from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds Preferred Experience with play-based or outdoor learning environments Experience supporting family-centered programs Additional Requirements Background check will be conducted after conditional offer Must complete Mandated Reporter training Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
