5/18/2026 The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. The American School for the Deaf is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth, and their families in development of intellect and the enhancement of quality of life utilizing specially designed instruction through an American Sign Language and English Bilingual Approach, empowering them to become educated and self-directed life-long learners. ASD is located in West Hartford, a town recognized as one of the top ten towns for raising families. West Hartford residents value education, evidenced by the high quality of public and private schools. There is also much to do in West Hartford. There is a wide array of parks and recreation. There are pools and hiking trails. There are historic sites to visit as well. Under the supervision of the Birth-to-Three Manager(s), or designee, provides services to children in ASD's Birth-to-Three Program. Works collaboratively with Early Childhood Services' supervisors, staff, ASD Preschool, and ASD Family Education Services staff.PRIMARY DUTIES
Makes regular home visits to children and families on a 12-month basis. Works with families and team members to develop and implement Individual Family Service Plans. Conducts evaluations and annual assessments. Writes reports and completes paperwork according to ASD and CT Birth-to-Three requirements. Participates in collaborative projects with CT Dept of Public Health, EHDI taskforce and other agencies in the state tasked with working with DHH infants, toddlers and their families. Participates in trainings and meetings. May assist with Family Education Services to include Family Engagement Events. Other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Meet or be willing to obtain CT Birth to Three System Personnel Standards requirements for:Developmental Therapist:
Hearing Impaired:
Certificate of endorsement #112 Birth-Kindergarten OR Developmental Therapy Specialist (DSP): Certificate of endorsement #123; BA or MA in education, special education, special education, psychology, early intervention, child and family studies, or closely related field. Requires college level courses in each: infant/toddler evaluation and assessment; working with families or early language and literacy; 300 hours of experience working with infants/toddlers and completion of other requirements of the credential process OR Developmental Therapy Associate (DTA): minimum BA Degree in human services field Experience and/or expertise working with Deaf/Hard-of-hearing children and their families, ages Birth-to-Three, preferred. Willingness to complete training in CT State Birth-to-Three requirements. Experience with different language and communication modalities including: ASL, Aural/Oral, Auditory and Verbal, preferred. Willingness to travel throughout the state and work flexible hours. ASL fluency and knowledge of Deaf Culture, preferred.SALARY AND BENEFITS
Compensation range is based on experience. Outstanding benefits package including Retirement with school matching, group health insurance, and other fringe benefits. $1000 sign on bonus after one year of service ASD is ALL ways able.
