M. Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
other duties may be assigned
  • Developing/planning for personal home visits for 1-2 visits per month.
  • Able to lift babies and/or toddlers up to 40 lbs
  • Be able to engage in floor time with parents and child
  • Providing personal visits to families for students who have a 20% delay, not enough of a delay for Michigan Mandated Special Education for birth to 3 years old.
  • Facilitates and participates in learning groups for infants and toddlers and/or parents as needed for the program.
  • Connecting families with community resources
  • Work to identify any and all children, ages 0-3, who may be eligible for Early On services
  • Evaluate children using a state-approved evaluation tool using the tool's prescribed procedures and complete a routine based family assessment.
  • Collaborate with speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, psychologists, and other birth to three staff.
  • Refer potentially eligible children to Early On MMSE partners
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Access on-going trainings (with approval of Coordinator)
  • Maintain accurate and timely records
  • Develop, plan and attend IFSP meetings
  • Submits thorough, meaningful and concise written reports in a timely manner to appropriate team members in preparation for IFSP meetings.
  • Directs instruction to parents by providing meaningful coaching to facilitate the skills necessary to support their child's development.
  • Supports parents to incorporate child outcomes as part of daily routines including things they do as a family and places they go.
  • Utilize interviewing skills to conduct family assessments to learn more about the family's strengths, needs and priorities for their child.
  • Develops functional outcomes for families in partnership with families that are based upon family interests and priorities.
  • Facilitates all aspects of the IFSP including conducting reviews, documenting growth on overall development and updating outcomes as appropriate.
  • Is flexible with respect to work schedule including days and hours.
  • Other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree
  • Essentials of Early On trainings (to be completed when hired)
  • Driver License and vehicle
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood, Social Work and/or Nursing preferred
  • Elementary teaching certification with Early Childhood endorsement preferred
  • Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health endorsement preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to communicate positively with students, staff, administrators, and parents
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relations with students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to work successfully and positively with all students to provide them with assistance in meeting their educational needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with clarity and conciseness
  • Strong assessment, analytical and diagnostic skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to remain in a stationary position. The employee frequently needs to move about inside the classroom and occasionally throughout the building to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee will communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee may need to travel to different work locations. The position requires the employee to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Compensation, length of the workday, and the number of workdays is based on the W-WEA collective bargaining agreement.
