April 21, 2026 - Until filled Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program. other duties may be assigned- Assist school parents in learning how to support their students in the core academic areas
- Assist with opening and closing of the school year
- Serve as the contact person for School parents who wish to volunteer
- Recruit and increase involvement of parent volunteers to assist with school activities
- Develop systems for data collection to support School Improvement Plan
- Participate in organizing and planning ways to recognize volunteers
- Encourage and develop partnerships with local business and community members, utilizing their resources in beneficial ways for the School
- Summer and evening hours may be required
- The parent volunteer coordinator will serve as the liaison between administration, teaching and support staff and the parents of the School when volunteering activities are scheduled
- Attend District Communication Team meetings and other parent related meetings.
- Identify issues of concern to families and work with the school to ensure that these issues are addressed in a timely manner
- Be prepared to help parents find the resources they need to support their children's education
- Establish a parent team at buildings to support individual school needs including coordination and supporting activities related to parent, family and community
- Assist FACE with establishing parent/family alumni network
- Assist with growing and maintaining Literacy Corp program
- Support school initiatives related to Climate, Culture and Social Emotional Learning
- Regular and predictable attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Residency within the School attendance area (preference given)
- Child(ren) who have, are currently, or will be attending assigned school (preference given)
- Interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to multi-task effectively
- Flexible schedule
- Self-direction
- Computer literacy skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position. The employee needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee will communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.EVALUATION
Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The hourly pay rate is $12.98 per hour. The hourly pay rate is based on the Special Projects pay scale. The work week is generally Monday-Friday. Hours vary - a flexible schedule is required.APPLICATION PROCEDURE
