Job Goal:
To assist in the creation of a safe and orderly school environment conducive to learning, to build positive home-school relations; to assist in creating, supporting, and enforcing expectations in the areas of student attendance, discipline and learning.
Job Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a regionally accredited college or university; and
State of DE Licensure as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW)
Two years successful full time work experience as a visiting teacher and/or social worker; and
Must hold or be eligible for School Social Worker Certification in Delaware
Excellent organizational and administrative skills
Essential Functions:
Possess working knowledge of and enforce the Delaware Code, Title 14, compulsory attendance laws
Assist the District and individual schools in focusing their efforts on attendance.
Work closely with the courts when necessary to ensure a child's regular school attendance
Collaborate with school personnel, students, and families to ensure compliance with state and district attendance requirements
Investigate unexcused student absences and ensure children attend school as required by law
Assist the district and individual schools in focusing their efforts regarding "at risk" students and their families
Provide ongoing social work intervention and case management to students with special challenges/circumstances impacting their school engagement
Represent the school district in truancy court and other proceedings
Serve as a liaison between students, families, schools, and community agencies to coordinate services and support
Maintain current knowledge of community resources, social service and public assistance programs
Maintain accurate records, case notes, reports, and documentation in accordance with district and state requirements
Analyze attendance and student support data to identify trends and recommend interventions
Advocate for students and families to ensure equitable access to educational opportunities and support services
Consult with administrators, teachers, school counselors, and other staff regarding strategies to support student attendance, engagement, and academic achievement
Complete truancy court reports
Consult and cooperate with school psychologists, guidance counselors, nurses, principals, and classroom teachers in assessing the mental and emotional health of the individual student having school difficulty and in developing appropriate remedial plans.
Gather information from home visits that will be useful in determining how best to meet the needs of the student and his/her family relative to improving attendance and making the school experience more meaningful.
Provide a positive image of the school to parents/caregivers, and convey the school's concern with the education, growth, and development of each child.
Assist with the identification and referral of students and their families who require the services of community agencies.
Provide liaison between families, students, community agencies and the schools.
Participate as a member of the 504 or IEP Team when appropriate.
Possess working knowledge of Mutli-tiered Systems of Support, specifically non-academic Tier 1 and potential intervention strategies
Assist with the development and monitoring of student attendance improvement plans

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, use fingers to type and/or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds. If lifting in excess of this weight is necessary, the assistance of a second person is required. The physical demands of this position will also include the ability of the individual to perform all of the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Work Environment:
This position normally performs the majority of work in a school building or work office environment.
