Job Goal:
To assist in the creation of a safe and orderly school environment conducive to learning, to build positive home-school relations; to assist in creating, supporting and enforcing expectations in the areas of student attendance, discipline and learning. To act as the District Liaison for McKinney Vento/Foster Care to coordinate supports and services for homeless/foster care students through collaboration with both internal and external resources.
Job Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a regionally accredited college or university; and
State of DE Licensure as either an Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW)
Two years successful full time work experience as a social worker; and
Must hold or be eligible for School Social Worker Certification in Delaware
Excellent organizational and Administrative skills
Essential Functions:
Serve in the role as District McKinney-Vento/Foster Care Liaison to ensure supports and services (e.g., supplies, transportation, tutoring, etc.) are in place for homeless students. This requires collaboration with both internal and external resources (e.g., Delaware Department of Education, Division of Family Services, School Counselors, Nurses, Administrators, etc.).
Provide district-wide training for staff on the identification of students experiencing homelessness and processes and procedures required under McKinney Vento.
Conduct home-visits to ensure ongoing communication and collaboration with families.
Assist the district and individual schools in focusing their efforts for "at risk" students and their families.
Provide ongoing social work intervention and casework to students with severe behavioral problems and their families.
Commitment to serving the needs of students and young adults, including adjudicated, at-risk youth and special-needs populations.
Excel in program and organizational planning, with documented success comprehensive service offerings such as building community support, key coalitions and strategic interagency partnerships. Backed by solid credentials (MSW) and equal strengths in program, tiered interventions and case management.
Provide crisis and short-term counseling to identified student and their families.
Assist with the identification and referral of students and their families who require the services of community agencies.
Provide liaison between families, students, community agencies, and the schools.
Participate as a member of the IEP Team when appropriate.
Establish and mange at-risk programs throughout the district.
Facilitate transition meetings for students returning to and enrolling in Brandywine School District from psychiatric, residential treatment, drug & alcohol programs and court placements.
Meet regularly with student and staff in alternative education programs to monitor progress
Assist to coordinate and communicate with parents, schools, and outside agencies involved with students.
Liaison as the Brandywine School District Alternative Education representative to district and consortium programs, attend meetings, and conferences.
Participate in alternative education committee meetings regularly; set up intake meetings, and maintain records for students assigned to alternative education.
Co-leader and member of the District Crisis Response Team; support and help coordinate referred services.
Possess working knowledge of Mutli-tiered Systems of Support, specifically non-academic Tier 1 and potential intervention strategies
Work closely with BSD Homeless/Foster Care Liaison and Visiting Teacher(s) with overlapping cases of students with myriads of needs.
Consult and confer with school teams dealing with specific student(s) and families as requested and contacted.
Facilitate Best Interest Meetings.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds. If lifting in excess of this weight is necessary, the assistance of a second person is required. The physical demands of this position will also include the ability of the individual to perform all of the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Work Environment:
This position normally performs the majority of work in a school building or work office environment.
