40-hour work week Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
General Description:
The Domestic Violence Outreach Advocate will provide trauma-informed, empowerment-based advocacy for the rights and protection of survivors of domestic violence, crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, resources, navigating systems for survivors, and assistance identifying individual survivors' needs either by phone or in person, including safe on-site location. The DV OR Advocate will be well-versed in best practices for victims of domestic violence and the ability to train others internally and externally about the dynamics of domestic violence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide advocacy for survivors of sexual assault at the individual and system level while maintaining good working relations with other multijurisdictional agencies.
  • At the survivor's request and consent, work closely and interact with tribal law enforcement, criminal investigators, detectives, deputies, patrol officers, supervisors, service providers, other advocates, governmental agencies, and the general public to ensure the survivor's rights and needs are addressed.
  • Assist survivors with applications for injunctions for protection, and when requested, accompany them to court appearances.
  • Assist survivors with Victims' Compensation/Relocation applications, including help to gather needed documentation.
  • Provide advocacy for survivors of domestic violence at the individual level and system level while maintaining a good working relationship with other multijurisdictional agencies.
  • Assist survivors in identifying barriers that prevent them from meeting their basic needs and determine potential solutions for overcoming those barriers. Also, help friends/family to recognize and use their strengths in working towards their goal(s).
  • Responsible for developing contacts and building liaison relationships within the community.
  • Represent the agency at community meetings and local DV Collaboratives as an expert on the issue of teen dating violence, teen healthy relationships, and domestic violence.
  • Attend or accompany other advocates to outreach tabling events, providing information or programming as appropriate.
  • Attend or accompany other advocates with presentations to schools, community groups, law enforcement, and others interested in issues related to domestic violence and the provision of survivor centers and culturally appropriate services.
  • Responsible for data entry of survivor services, outreach events, public awareness, community education, and professional training in the organization's database.
  • Participation in all Another Way staff meetings, in-service training programs, required conferences, and meetings.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Possess a caring, honest, cooperative nature and a supportive, sensitive, and empathetic personality. Ability to be flexible while maintaining a positive attitude. Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with community partners, participants, other employees, and volunteers. Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for projects outside of the scope of normal duties and job description as necessary to help the team. Required to pass a Level II Fingerprinting background review, Pre-employment drug screening, Motor Vehicle Records Check, proof of current liability car insurance
Qualifications:

Previous experience working with trauma survivors is strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office ( i.e., Word, Excel, etc.) Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Willingness to learn and train on operating systems.
