Summary:
School Social Workers strengthen the district's mission by providing services that enhance home, school, and community partnerships. The School Social Worker will address barriers that interfere with student performance and achievement by bringing stakeholders together while creating an environment that is conducive to effective problem solving and learning. The School Social Worker will help students and families with learning, behavior, and/or attendance concerns. The School Social Worker will work independently under the supervision of site principals and the Supervisor of School Social Work Services.

Responsibilities:
  • Promotes mental health and well-being of all students by providing individual and group psychoeducational counseling, implementing district crisis protocols, and linking students and families to community mental health services.
  • Serves as the liaison between school, family, and community agencies, including advocacy on behalf of students.
  • Promotes parental engagement in the educational process through a multi-tiered system of supports, including home visits.
  • Consults with classroom teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to provide insight and understanding regarding a students' needs or behaviors.
  • Develops comprehensive, diagnostic assessment of students' social, emotional, and interpersonal relationships within the school, home, and community.
  • Serves on intra/interdisciplinary teams at each school to assist students experiencing attendance, academic, social, emotional, and/or health problems.
  • Identifies barriers to student attendance and engages parents in implementing interventions to maximize student achievement.
  • Coordinates services with internal and external resource providers to develop a comprehensive service and delivery system.
  • Provides and participates in professional developmental opportunities.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Experience:
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in social work preferred. Field work placement in a school setting or related human service area (e.g., community mental health, social service agency, etc.) or school social work experience preferred.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
Florida Professional Educator Certificate or Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Certification as a school social worker may be earned in accordance with School Board Policy.
Language Skills:
Reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Writes reports, correspondence, and manuals. Effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.
Mathematical Skills:
Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical Activities:
Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, kneeling, keyboarding, talking, hearing, depth perception, near acuity, far acuity, stooping, and field of vision.
Lifting Demands:
Up to 10 pounds.
Reaching Activities:
Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
This position requires traveling to various school sites, work locations, and/or community organizations throughout the district.
