Through a variety of educational pathways that provide access and range from certificates and associate degrees to a professional doctoral program, UNG is responsive to regional education and economic development needs. Federally designated as a senior military college, one of the university's signature leadership programs is its 800-member Corps of Cadets on UNG's Dahlonega Campus. The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Peer Health Educator on the Cumming Campus. Peer Health Educators will provide insights and strategies to help shape well-being messaging, help develop content for social media accounts, and plan events to support well-being initiatives. Selected candidates will receive and maintain training to include: Peer Educator specific training, First Aid/CPR/AED certification, and opportunities to complete a Mental Health First Aid Certification. This position will work as part of the Peer Educator Network, operating out of Campus Recreation and Wellness, to plan, promote, and implement educational events and activities on various health issues. This is a paid student leadership position. This position is subject to semester GPA and conduct checks. Campus Recreation and Wellness is committed to supporting the academic and personal success of students and will refer students to support resources as needed. Successful candidates are expected to serve as leaders and role models in their efforts, as well as recruit volunteers. A chosen candidate can expect to receive valuable work experience, knowledge, leadership opportunities, public speaking experience, and professional leadership support. Maintain 10 assigned hours per week Plan, promote, and implement educational events and activities on various health issues, including supporting the Live Well UNG initiative. Maintain organized calendar of upcoming presentations and events. Wear Peer Health Educator attire and a name tag while on duty or representing the department at events. Make sure that all events and presentations are properly planned and approved by your supervisor. Recruit volunteer peer educators into the program. Seek out opportunities to work collaboratively with student organizations and other departments to create, publicize, and deliver health promotion programs and events. Serve as a health information and referral resource and support the volunteers to serve in the same capacity. Attend weekly meetings and required trainings. Stay up to date with various well-being topics through educational opportunities. Available to work occasional evenings. Other duties as assigned and as determined as the position evolves. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities The ideal candidate should have an interest in well-being, be interested in leading a group of peer volunteers in addressing health issues relevant among UNG students, and must possess a strong desire to affect change in health behaviors through creative and effective health promotion activities, as well as the following:- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and to be able to communicate effectively with their peers, University employees and possibly, community agencies.
- Must be able to work as a team member and independently ("self-starter").
- Must be able to organize and manage a variety of projects simultaneously.
- Must possess positive work attitude and be dependable and responsible.
