Job Description

Child Advocate Hartwell, GA 30643 $15.60 an hour - Part-time $15.60 an hour -
Part-time Position Hours:
10:00am-2:00pm (One Position) and 4:00pm-8:00pm (One Position)
Role Summary:
The Child Advocate is a member of both the Shelter and Outreach teams, providing comprehensive support services to children and their families receiving services from NEGACDV. This role includes direct child advocacy, childcare, developmental support, and education for both residential and non-residential clients.
Reporting Structure:
This position is supervised by the Director of Services but supports the Outreach Manager and Shelter Manager in their assigned program areas. This position does not supervise other staff.
Classification:
FLSA Non-exempt, 20 hours per week. This position is based at both the shelter and the outreach office and is an on-site (non-remote) position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide childcare during client appointments, support groups, and other agency activities for both shelter and outreach clients.
  • Coordinate and facilitate child- and parent-focused support/educational groups and activities.
  • Develop and maintain a library of parenting materials, age-appropriate toys, books, games, and educational tools.
  • Conduct routine safety assessments of childcare environments, including the shelter house, toys, playground, and equipment.
  • Screen children for medical, educational, and developmental concerns; make referrals as needed.
  • Act as a liaison with the school system to coordinate school enrollment or remote learning for school-age shelter residents.
  • Assist in arranging transportation and childcare for clients as needed.
  • Provide support and education to parents on positive child discipline and healthy parent-child relationships.
  • Supervise family time and lead interactive activities promoting bonding and well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in case management systems, including service tracking, safety planning, and documentation required by funders.
  • Maintain and share up-to-date resource information on child-related community programs and services.
  • Represent NEGACDV at community meetings and events as assigned.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure services for children are trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or experience in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and be on call.
  • Knowledge and skills in direct (individual and group) services, knowledge of homelessness, crisis intervention, domestic violence, sexual assault, victimization, substance abuse, and mental health issues, specifically in child populations. Strong organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform well in a multi-tasking environment and prioritize work requirements.
Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, including client interactions. Ability to work in Microsoft Office as well as client services databases. Applicants must currently have a valid GA or SC driver's license and proof of automobile insurance. Applicants must pass a background and fingerprint check as required by funders and possess or be willing to acquire CPR/First Aid Certification.
