Director of Children and Youth Ministries Job Description - 2025
Hours:

Compensation:
Salaried position Position Summary The Director of Children and Youth Ministry is a full-time leadership role (40 hours per week) responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the children and youth ministries. This includes Sunday mornings, Wednesday night programming (Awana & Youth), volunteer recruitment and training, child safety compliance, special events, childcare for church functions, and overall children and youth ministry administration. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for a spiritually mature, organized, and energetic leader who has a passion for helping children know and follow Jesus.
The ideal candidate will be:
A biblically qualified leader. Clear in their understanding of the gospel. A strong communicator who maintains regular communication with children, youth, parents, and volunteers A team builder who can recruit, train, and encourage volunteers Highly organized and detail-oriented Committed to safety and excellence in children's ministry Able to create engaging, joyful environments for children Creative and innovative, able to develop fresh, engaging activities, events, and experiences that help children and youth connect with one another and grow in their faith. Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple responsibilities Supportive of the church's mission, vision, and leadership Sunday Mornings Open the facility and ensure electronic check-in stations are ready for parents to check in their children. Prepare all curriculum and corresponding supplies needed to equip teachers for Sunday School. Create a welcoming environment with volunteer greeters to help as the gatekeepers to the childrens ministry. Oversee classroom organization and cleanliness. Organize and lead a volunteer huddle before children and youth are dismissed to their classrooms. Coordinate Children's Church, including maintaining and communicating the volunteer schedule. Prepare and distribute all curriculum for Children's Church volunteers. Wednesday Nights Open the facility and ensure electronic check-in stations are ready for parents to check in their children. In the youth room turn on lights, projector, computer, and set up games. Serve as the emcee, or recruit an emcee, who creates energy and prepares children for the evening's activities. Organize and lead a volunteer huddle before children are dismissed to their classrooms. Organize and lead a volunteer huddle for youth volunteers. Prepare all curriculum and corresponding supplies needed to equip Awana and youth ministry teachers and leaders. Volunteers Recruit volunteers as needed for both children and youth ministries. Develop and maintain a clear Children's Ministry handbook that outlines all policies and procedures. Organize volunteer training sessions at least twice per year. Conduct background checks for all volunteers serving in Children and Youth Ministries. Complete all MinistrySafe training videos and successfully pass the required assessments. Train all volunteers in MinistrySafe materials, as well as the church's safety policies and procedures. Create meaningful ways to show appreciation for Children and Youth Ministry volunteers. Special Events Organize Trunk or Treat. Organize Awana Graduation. Attend Awana conference. Plan special activities for major holidays (i.e. Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, etc.) Plan, oversee, and attend youth camp. Plan and oversee children-related aspects of the Fall Festival. Plan at least two family and/or children's events outside of regular programming (Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings). Plan regular activities (ideally once per month) for youth outside of regular programming (Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings). Attend various sporting events for youth who are part of Voice of Truth. Other Childcare Opportunities Coordinate childcare for member's meetings. Coordinate childcare for special events such as worship nights, Good Friday services, and other church gatherings. Coordinate childcare for 0-4 years old during Sunday morning gatherings. Administrative Responsibilities Organize and maintain records for families participating in any Children and Youth Ministry activities. Create opportunities to get parents of Happy Hollow students and other guest parents to be connected to the regular activities of Voice of Truth Church. Attend all staff meetings. Meet weekly one-on-one with the Lead Pastor. Manage and track the Children's Ministry budget. Submit monthly reimbursement forms for ministry-related expenses.
