INTRODUCTION
To provide training and technical assistance to Family Advocate staff in understanding their roles in implementing program policies and procedures, maintaining enrollment in all program options and engaging parents, families and communities in supporting school readiness of pre-school aged children. The Family Advocate Mentor does not have supervisory responsibilities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide one-on-one training and technical assistance to Family Advocate staff on Parent, Family and Community Engagement Framework and ERSEA policies and procedures that promote the delivery of quality services.
  • Assist in onboarding new Family Advocates in reviewing policies, procedures and day to day duties.
  • Train and mentor the Family Development Credential program to Family Advocate Trainees. Obtain certification and credential.
  • Advise Family Advocate staff as they learn new skills or new roles, including internal procedures.
  • Provide peer support through on-site visits, phone calls, emails, and cluster activities.
  • Collaborates with Family Advocate staff to solve problems by encouraging alternative solutions and self-reflection.
  • Supports Family Advocates in data collection to prepare for workshops and family engagement activities.
  • Provides resources such as books, journals, articles, workshops, and linkages to community resources to Family Advocate staff.
  • Provides regular reports to supervising program manager as to Family Advocates activities and outcomes as identified in Family Advocate professional development and training plan.
  • Meet with ERSEA Specialist monthly to check waitlists to plan recruitment opportunities in the community
  • Participates in development and implementation of systematic approach to recruitment planning that involves active year-round recruitment in all program service areas.
  • Collect, evaluate and share information, assess strengths, weaknesses and needs of Family Advocate staff in promoting workplace mentoring.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interacting with staff, community partners, and parents to promote family engagement in program services, as well as, providing peer mentoring through on
  • site visits, and cluster activities.
  • Model and provide support to Family Advocate staff in developing and understanding their role with the Relationship Based Competencies.
  • Assist Family Advocate staff to ensure that program options are at full enrollment throughout the school year with daily monitoring of enrollment, drops, and follow-up on absences.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION A
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, Human/Family Studies, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology or related field of study preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of six (6) months of full-time professional experience in the multiple disciplines required by the program, including but not limited to a human/social service environment providing case management and/or family work/life consultation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, government agencies, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Must have a valid driver's license and daily access to an automobile that is properly licensed and insured for work.
  • Must comply with State of Hawaii "Criminal History Record Clearance" before date of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Must show evidence of TB test at time of employment and PE clearance before date of hire.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of low-income service areas and of social services resources throughout the island of Oahu.
  • Possesses functional knowledge of family services and resources.
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds with emphasis on preschool aged children and their families.
