(Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center) is a nonprofit organization founded by and for refugees. Our mission is to expand opportunities through advocacy, education, and community development while serving as a trusted resource for refugee communities across Iowa. We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and culturally responsive Early Childhood Parent Navigator Program Staff member to help refugee families access resources, strengthen parenting supports, and build connections within the community. Position Summary In this role, you will provide case management, coordinate community outreach and education, support parent learning circles, connect families to community resources, provide interpretation and translation (if the applicant is multi-lingual), and collaborate with community partners. You will also support refugee navigators and help ensure families receive culturally appropriate, family-centered services. This position would serve as Coordinator or Manager level dependent upon the experience of the applicant. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strengths-based case management and client support.
- Conduct client intake, assessments, and ongoing follow-up.
- Assist in managing grants, funding, and in-kind resources.
- Connect families with community resources and services.
- Provide interpretation and translation services as needed (if applicable).
- Coordinate community outreach events, trainings, and parent education activities.
- Build positive relationships with communities, organizations, and agencies to increase capacity and support systems change.
- Ongoing and timely collection and maintaining accurate program data and case documentation.
- Support volunteers, interns, and refugee navigators.
- Represent EMBARC at community meetings and events.
- Provide critical feedback on meetings, trainings, and curriculum in order to ensure resources are culturally appropriate/accessible.
- Maintain cross-program communication when projects involve multiple departments. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in human services, early childhood education, social work, education, or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse communities; refugee or immigrant populations preferred.
- Passion for social justice, equity, and community engagement.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Applicants speaking English and a minority dialect from Burma (such as Burmese, Karen, Karenni, and Chin dialects) preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Able to respond appropriately to unexpected or sensitive situations. Requirements
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and limited statewide travel.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office. Schedule & Benefits
- Full-time (40 hours/week).
- Monday-Friday, primarily 9 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Primarily office-based in Des Moines with occasional evening and weekend work.
