DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW
Parent Worker positions are hourly school-based positions. They can be opened for anywhere from 4 to 8 hours per day. These positions allow principals to hire parents or community members at their schools to fulfill specific roles at a school. Position Overview at
Whitney Young High School:
The Parent Worker serves as a vital bridge between the school, students, and families. Stationed in the Attendance Office, this role combines administrative accuracy with exceptional community support. You will be the first point of contact for parents reporting absences, a guide for families navigating school technology, and a key player in ensuring our daily attendance data is flawless.
Key Responsibilities Parent Support & Intake:
Manage incoming phone calls and emails from parents/guardians regarding student absences. Accurately log and track absence excuses, tardies, and early dismissals.
Technology & Access Guidance:
Assist parents with onboarding, password resets, and troubleshooting for the Aspen Parent Portal . Help families understand how to view their student's attendance and academic progress online.
Data & Record Keeping:
Maintain high-accuracy attendance records in the Aspen system as well as the school's local records. Reconcile daily attendance discrepancies and cross-reference teacher rosters.
School Community Liaison:
Work directly with students who are arriving late or departing early. Collaborate with substitute teachers to ensure classroom attendance rosters are collected and processed correctly. Provide a welcoming, helpful environment for all visitors to the Attendance Office.
Qualifications & Skills Detail-Oriented:
Exceptional accuracy in data entry and record-keeping is non-negotiable.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with a diverse population of parents, students, and staff with empathy and professionalism.
Tech-Savvy:
Proficiency with school management systems (experience with Aspen is a major plus, but training will be provided) and standard office software (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) Multilingualism (Highly Preferred): Proficiency in at least one language other than English to effectively support our diverse community.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to handle fast-paced environments, multitask, and maintain confidentiality regarding student records.
