Director of Pupil Services Qualifications:
  • Must hold DPI Licensure
  • Completion of an approved program for the preparation of a school social worker resulting in a master's degree and certified by the Department of Public Instruction.
  • Two or more years of experience within a school setting (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others
  • Demonstrate the adequate knowledge, skills, and dispositions under the seven pupil services standards
  • Such other qualifications as the Board of Education and/or District Administrator may find appropriate
Abilities, Skills, and Knowledge Desired:
  • Implementing the mission of school social work to insure student learning, educational equity and social justice for every student by reducing or eliminating the social, economic, and environmental barriers that may interfere with a student's ability to maximally benefit from his/her education.
Responsibilities:
  • Assessment, Screening, and Evaluation o IEP and 504 evaluation teams o Social-developmental histories o Building Intervention Teams o Depression/suicide screening o Violence risk screening o Abuse and neglect screening o Alcohol and other drug screenings o Response to Intervention o Functional behavioral assessments
  • Individual and Small Group Student Services o Educational support groups o Individual counseling and problem-solving o Services to at risk youth o Advocacy for student access to school and community-based services and instruction o Behavioral intervention plans o Crisis Intervention
  • traumatic events, family crisis, safety, suicidal ideation, self-injury, and mandated reports of suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Home-School Collaboration o Home visits and telephone contacts o Parent education and support o Family assistance in finding and utilizing community resources
  • Collaboration and Partnerships with Community-Based Organizations o Coordination of student transition to/from foster care, corrections, detention, and residential treatment o Educational resource to community groups o Coordination of community resources with school services o Development and management of collaborative relationships with community agencies o Referrals to community resources o Advocacy for school and district roles with the greater community • Classroom Instruction o Protective behaviors, AOD, suicide prevention, mental health, dating violence, bullying and other areas dealing with safety, prevention, health promotion, and asset-building • Services for School Staff o Consultation and problem-solving o Employee assistance and wellness o Staff development o Team facilitation • Program, Resource, and Policy Development o Curriculum o Attendance and truancy o Building and district crisis response o Program and services to meet the needs of specific student populations: Out of Home Care, mobile, and at-risk student groups o School climate and environment o Harassment, bullying, and nondiscrimination o Discipline, suspension, and expulsion o Grant writing and management • Systems Change to Improve Learning and Support Services o Within the school•Social Emotional Learning, PBIS, RTI, SIT etc.
o Between the schools and the greater community
