Job Description
Are you passionate about helping survivors, promoting safety, and breaking the cycle of domestic violence? Do you want to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by this issue? If so, we have an incredible opportunity for you as a Domestic Violence Advocate. As a Domestic Violence Advocate, you will play a vital role in providing support, resources, and empowerment to survivors of domestic violence. Your work will contribute to creating a safer, more equitable society while offering hope and healing to those in need.
Key Responsibilities:
Crisis Intervention:
Offer immediate support to survivors in crisis, ensuring their safety and well-being. This may involve providing emotional support, connecting them with emergency shelter, and helping them access necessary services.Advocacy:
Be a strong advocate for survivors, both within the legal system and in seeking essential social services such as counseling, housing, and financial assistance.Empowerment:
Provide survivors with the knowledge and tools they need to regain control over their lives. Assist them in creating safety plans and setting goals for the future.Resource Coordination:
Collaborate with community organizations, legal professionals, and social service agencies to ensure that survivors receive the comprehensive support they require.Education and Outreach:
Conduct public awareness campaigns and educational programs aimed at preventing domestic violence and promoting healthy relationships.Support Groups:
Facilitate or connect survivors to support groups where they can share experiences, find community, and heal together.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Empathy, patience, and excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, legal processes, and available resources. Strong communication and advocacy skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and provide non-judgmental support. Dedication to social justice and a commitment to ending domestic violence.Benefits:

Experience in providing crisis intervention and peer counseling. Ability to answer crisis calls in a timely manner and communicate over the phone. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds in a caring, empathetic, and non-judgmental manner. Travel within a three-parish area is required. Must have dependable transportation, valid driver's license, and current insurance coverage. This position requires taking an on-call 24/7 shift to be rotated amongst advocacy staff. Professionalism and courtesy for other staff and being a team player.Job Type:
