Why Join the Department of Social Work East Ann Arbor Turner Geriatrics Center team? As a member of the Geriatric Social Work team, you will play a vital role in providing psychotherapy and some care management services within the East Ann Arbor Turner Geriatric Center Social Work team. As a Psychotherapy Social Worker, you will provide both individual and group psychotherapy sessions designed to support the unique needs of the older adult population. This includes addressing complex, age-related challenges such as coping with health changes, loss of loved ones, retirement, reduced mobility, chronic pain, and social isolation. Many of our clients experience heightened anxiety, depression, grief, and other mental health concerns as they navigate significant transitions in later life. You will play a central role in offering compassionate, evidence-based interventions to help them enhance their emotional well-being and maintain a sense of connection and purpose. Additional responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments, facilitating care coordination, advocating for clients, and working closely with interdisciplinary team members to ensure holistic, patient-centered care. This 0.5 FTE (20 hours) Care Connect Geriatric Social Work (MSW/MSW SR) position will be responsible for providing psychotherapy and care management services to older adult patients at East Ann Arbor Turner Geriatric Center. Patients and their caregivers face complex health issues and ongoing psychosocial challenges, including barriers to care and a high prevalence of mental health needs. This social worker will deliver psychotherapy, support care coordination, and address these unique needs to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and families. A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan. Ability to participate with Medicare. Previous experience with individual and group psychotherapy with older adult population. Previous experience with medical and mental health social work. Skilled in utilizing mental health and cognitive assessment screening tools such as MoCA, C-SSRS, PHQ-9, GAD-7 Skilled in utilizing therapeutic modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, and Mindfulness-based interventions Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions and familiarity with structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology Previous experience with issues of chronic illness, social isolation, adjustment to illness and disability, employment issues/retirement, locating community resources Proficiency in adjustment counseling, loss, end of life, and bereavement issues Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective care planning Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical setting Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position Effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer This is a part-time, 20 hours/week position. The typical schedule may include Tue and Fri, 8:00 am- 4:30 pm or 8:30 am- 5:00 pm, plus one additional day per week (TBD). This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses. Job openings are posted for a minimum of seven calendar days. The review and selection process may begin as early as the eighth day after posting.
