Beverly Hills Academy Position Summary Beverly Hills Academy is seeking a dedicated, student-centered School Counselor or School Social Worker to support the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of students in grades Preschool through 8th Grade. This position is funded through Michigan's 31aa Section 5 Grant and is designed to increase access to mental health services, improve student well-being, strengthen family engagement, and support a positive school climate. The School Counselor/Social Worker will serve as the school's lead Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator, overseeing student wellness initiatives, implementing preventative mental health programming, providing direct counseling services, and developing both small-group and school-wide activities that foster student growth, resilience, leadership, and positive school culture. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Master's Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field. Valid Michigan School Counselor License or Michigan School Social Worker Approval. Master's of Social Work (MSW), Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Experience working with children and families in an educational setting. Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, behavior intervention, and social-emotional learning. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics. Demonstrated cultural competence and the ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds. Willingness to learn about, respect and support Islamic values, traditions, and the mission of the school. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a Montessori, private, or faith-based school setting. Experience with MTSS, restorative practices, and crisis intervention. Experience coordinating community partnerships and mental health referrals. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSocial-Emotional Learning Leadership Serve as the school's lead coordinator for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programming and initiatives. Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive SEL plan aligned with the school's mission and student needs. Collaborate with administrators and teachers to integrate SEL concepts into classroom instruction and school culture. Provide staff training, resources, and support related to SEL, mental health awareness, restorative practices, and student well-being. Analyze school climate and student needs data to recommend SEL programming and interventions. Assist in fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment. Student Mental Health and Counseling Services Provide individual and small-group counseling services for students experiencing academic, behavioral, social-emotional, or mental health challenges. Support students with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, peer conflict, self-regulation, and social skills development. Conduct needs assessments and assist in developing intervention plans. Help students develop coping strategies, conflict-resolution skills, emotional regulation, and resilience. Maintain appropriate documentation of services and interventions. Student Enrichment and Wellness Programs Plan, organize, and facilitate a minimum of two ongoing student support, leadership, wellness, or social-emotional programs each school year. Conduct small-group and whole-group activities designed to build social skills, leadership, emotional regulation, resilience, character development, and positive peer relationships. Coordinate student workshops, assemblies, mentoring opportunities, leadership activities, and wellness events. Identify students who may benefit from targeted support groups and facilitate interventions based on student needs. Monitor program effectiveness and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Behavioral and Academic Support Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop behavior support plans and intervention strategies. Participate in MTSS and student support meetings. Monitor student progress and recommend appropriate interventions and supports. Support classroom management initiatives through consultation and coaching. Assist with attendance, behavior, and school engagement concerns when appropriate. Family and Community Engagement Serve as a liaison between home, school, and community agencies. Provide parent support, education, and referrals to community resources and mental health services. Assist families in accessing services that support student success and well-being. Build collaborative relationships with outside providers and community organizations. Crisis Prevention and Intervention Participate in school crisis response efforts. Conduct risk assessments and assist with safety planning when necessary. Support students and families during crises, transitions, and significant life events. Provide consultation and support to staff regarding student mental health concerns. Grant Compliance and Data Collection Assist with data collection, reporting, and documentation required under the Michigan 31aa Section 5 Grant. Monitor program outcomes and student participation to support grant objectives. Participate in professional development related to student mental health and wellness initiatives. Additional Responsibilities Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and required trainings. Collaborate with school leadership to support school-wide initiatives and strategic goals. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal. Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the school building and campus.
