Category Schools - Social Worker Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role supporting K-12 students as a School Social Worker, where your expertise can facilitate real change in the educational and personal journeys of special education students. This contract opportunity spans the 2026-2027 school year (August 17 - June 11) with a commitment of 35 hours weekly. This hands-on, onsite role is based in the vibrant Michigan communities near Flint, Grand Blanc, Lansing, and Detroit. In this position, you will: Identify and assess the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students requiring special education services. Deliver targeted intervention support in both small group and one-on-one settings. Design and guide the implementation of behavior management plans, working collaboratively with general and special education teachers. Provide critical case management for students who access a broad range of support services. Offer both group and individualized counseling to help students navigate emotional, behavioral, and social challenges. Partner with educators, administrators, and community organizations to create cohesive strategies supporting academic and social growth. Participate actively in IEP meetings, student evaluations, and parent conferences to ensure each student's needs are met holistically. Foster strong school-family relationships, including conducting home visits when appropriate. Respond to and report cases of child abuse or neglect and take the lead on crisis intervention protocols.
Ideal candidates will bring:
A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution. Full School Social Worker licensure, or a Limited License (MSW). A valid LARA license and MDE SW Approval.
One of the following:
Preliminary School Social Worker Certificate (PSSWC), Professional School Social Worker Certificate (PSWC), or a School Social Worker Permit (SSWP). Official university transcripts.
