Position Summary The Head Start Teacher plans, prepares, and leads classroom experiences that meet Head Start Performance Standards and support children's intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development. This role uses child assessment data to individualize learning, promote school readiness, and ensure comprehensive services for children and families. Responsibilities include lesson planning, recordkeeping, assessments, family communication, and collaboration with staff and community partners. Classroom Leadership Create an inclusive learning environment that supports each child's unique strengths and needs. Design and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Conduct child assessments accurately and consistently. Supervise and provide guidance to classroom staff. Coordinate services and supports for children with disabilities. Integrate nutrition, health, and wellness activities into daily programming. Model and uphold Semcac's Code of Conduct and Behavior Guidance policies. Family Engagement Encourage and support active family participation in the program. Assist families in preparing children for successful transitions to future educational settings. Community Collaboration Participate in the recruitment of eligible Head Start children. Build partnerships with community organizations and service providers to support family and child success.
Qualifications / Education
& Experience One of the following is required: Associate's Degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or a related field recognized by the Office of Head Start; OR Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Early Childhood Education or a related field recognized by the Office of Head Start; OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year Early Childhood Education program. Additional Requirements CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain. Ability to pass background checks, medical examinations, and required health screenings. Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Semcac's service area as needed. Preferred Skills Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Computer proficiency and keyboarding skills. Knowledge of child development and family support services. Leadership, teamwork, and collaboration abilities.
