SUMMARY:
Completes all screening components according to the EarlyChildhood Screening Program Standards set by the MN Dept. of Health and MDE. Screenings will be conducted in either Spanish or Somali.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. Conducts screening, using standardized screening instruments and assessments, in accordance with state mandates and practices, including vision, hearing, development, social-emotional, and speech. Maintains accurate records for each screening appointment, completes all data entry and documentation requirements. Makes connections with young children and their families, communicates findings, and makes recommendations or referrals based on the results of the screening. Collects and organizes the data necessary for preparation of the Minnesota State EarlyChildhood Screening Report. Maintains an awareness of school and community resources in order to make appropriate referrals. Supports the two-way referral process between EarlyChildhood Screening and EarlyChildhood Special Education. Maintains confidentiality of children and families Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. Other Functions Assist parents/guardians with educational concerns Act as a model for parents in dealing effectively with young children Demonstrate a thorough understanding of family dynamic factors, risk factors, as well as the typical and atypical development of young children Promote a positive image of our early childhood programs and the Hopkins Public School district Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to young children, parents, and staff needs Respond to interpersonal conflict with appropriate conflict resolution techniques Other tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in education, or a closely related field Experience with developmental assessment tools Demonstrated ability to work with young children and their parents Experience with physical health assessments and immunization requirements for young children Experience working within a school system preferred
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Driver's license. MN License in at least one of the following areas preferred: special education teacher school psychologist kindergarten teacher prekindergarten teacher school nurse public health nurse registered nurse Required Knowledge and Skills Fluency in the Somali or Spanish language. Strong communication, cooperation, collaboration, and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative Sensitive to and able to relate well to both children and adults Ability to work effectively with staff Ability to mediate and solve problems Dependable

Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office setting. Occasional travel required to locations throughout the District.
