Full Job Description Description:
This position is responsible for providing direct advocacy services to adults and children who are victim-survivors of domestic violence that access Women's Advocates services. The Float Advocate will fill in with the Shelter Advocacy, Children's Advocacy, or Housing Stability teams depending on staffing and agency needs. This position requires a high level of flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to quickly learn and apply new information. The Float Advocate may be scheduled for daytime, evening, weekend and overnight shifts. Schedule changes will be given at minimum three weeks in advance. This is a 30-hour per week position, with some weeks up to 40 hours. This position participates in the on-call rotation, providing backup phone and in-person support to shelter staff and covering shifts as needed. The pay range for this role is: $22 - $25/hour. I. Duties & Responsibilities - these vary based on the position the Float Advocate is filling. Please note that this is not all encompassing and there will be other duties as assigned.
Crisis Resource Advocate:
Provides crisis counseling and intervention, information, support and referrals to individuals calling Women's Advocates' 24-hour crisis line. Screens callers seeking shelter, arranges transportation, completes resident intake upon arrival Keeps resident needs items stocked in front office & provides them upon request
Primary Advocate:
Provide case management to all victim-survivors in shelter including residents who are all genders, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and/or have limited mobility. Provides advocacy and resource referrals related to legal, medical, financial, housing, and educational needs for residents on their caseload and others as needed. Provides legal advocacy to community victim-survivors at Bridges to Safety. Enforces shelter policies with residents using a trauma-informed, compassionate approach to support safety and positive communal living.
Child & Family Advocate:
Plans supportive activities and supervision for children and youth impacted by trauma. Builds supportive relationships with children and families, offering guidance on conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and community resources. Supports children and families with educational needs, including school enrollment assistance.
Housing Stability Advocate:
Provides case management to Housing Stability participants in community, including Coordinated Entry/Access referrals, and conducts home visits. Supports shelter residents in achieving housing goals, including addressing barriers, housing search, subsidy navigation, and application assistance. Facilitates a weekly support group focusing on housing stability.
Common duties across float positions:
Assists arriving and departing residents with storing, labeling and packing belongings. Collaborate with all other WA teams to meet each participant's individual needs Enters information into Client Track database system daily Collects and maintains accurate information on all residents on their caseload. Assesses level and history of violence experienced and aids in the development of a safety plan for victims and their children. Obtains necessary documents and assists residents with filling out paperwork (expungement, protective order, divorce paperwork, child custody)
Requirements:
1. Three years of experience working with vulnerable individuals, families and children. 2. Ability to prioritize, handle a variety of tasks and be self-directed. 3. Ability to handle client, administrative and personnel information with complete confidentiality. 4. Be able to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 pounds. 5. Be able to navigate an environment with lots of stairs. 6. Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to intercultural development and anti-racism work in the workplace. 7. Commitment to actively contributing to the organization being a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community. 8. Ability to be available for on-call coverage on short notice. 9. Supports the self determination of victim survivors with a non-judgmental, trauma informed and compassionate, warm approach. 10. Good computer skills with demonstrated ability in Microsoft office products and database entry. 11. Valid driver's license is required. 12. Criminal background check is required for this position. 13. Second language preferred.
