The Position The Family Support Coordinator (FSC) is responsible for maximizing organ and tissue donation through the identification and evaluation of all potential donors as well as through the use of persuasive strategies to move donor families towards donation and strengthen hospital partner relationships. Provides 24-hour on-call availability to conduct organ and tissue donation evaluation and family approaches throughout the Mid-America Transplant (MT) service area. What You'll Do Overcomes barriers to organ and tissue donation through planning, preparation, and the effective use of internal resources prior to approaching a family. As part of the planning process, collaborates with the donor hospital staff to gain a real-time assessment of family dynamics and current patient prognosis to ensure an effective and compliant support at each step of the authorization process. Actively communicates with the family, Mid-America Transplant, and Hospital staff to ensure awareness and alignment throughout the process. Secures written authorization for donation by talking with grieving families. Advocates for sharing the gift of life and the importance and value of the donation process. This includes responding to donor family questions and/or concerns regarding the process, paperwork, regulations, hospital policies, and procedures. Prepares and supports donor families attending a donation after circulatory death in the hospital operating room, or other designated area. Follows up with the donor families approached to provide post-organ and tissue recovery updates per MT protocol. Promote hospital staff development efforts that create awareness of the hospital's obligation to ensure donation is offered and their important role in maximizing donation.
