About the
Department/Division:
The McKinney Vento Coordinator is part of the Student & Family Services department. This department provides guidance and support for the district's school counselors, school social workers, school nurses, and students in transition.
Position Summary:
The McKinney Vento Coordinator will manage the district's Homeless Education program. Through direct work with families and school social workers, the Coordinator will help identify families under the MKV program and connect to resources and services that remove barriers to a student's education. Further, the Coordinator will help parents and social workers better understand the educational system so they can better advocate for their children's education.
Responsibilities:
Lead professional development that helps school and district staff better understand McKinney Vento law and best practices Meet directly with families to establish MKV status Collaborate regularly with the federal programs department to monitor and manage funds and ensure appropriate documentation Collaborate with child nutrition, transportation and other applicable departments within ABSS to ensure students within the MKV program have access to available services and resources Serve as the district point of contact for foster care Manage MKV data and complete all necessary state and federal reporting Host family engagement activities for families within the program Establish and maintain community partnerships Maintain confidential and non-confidential records for documentation Provide regular communication with MKV parents of their education rights as well as educational opportunities for students Create and compile documentation as needed for records Plan and implement parent events, family nights, and parent training Survey parents for need based services Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Required Qualifications:
Valid North Carolina driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
Hold or eligible to hold NC professional educator's license for school social work

Essential Duty % Task Description Direct service to students & families 60% Educate families as to the law and their rights under McKinney Vento Provide opportunities for students and families to engage in self advocacy Advocate for students to remove barriers to educate Organize and manage the supply closets (food, hygiene, etc) and family services at Sellars Gunn Meeting families in the community (i.e. shelters, hotels, etc) and home visits as needed Data reporting & fund management 13% Complete and submit state and annual reports for MKV and foster care Ongoing management of the TransAct data system for student participating in MKV programming Regular documentation of federal funds and expenditures Leading & attending professional development 13% Attend regular professional development to learn best practices in documentation, reporting, and liaison responsibilities Provide training to district staff on MKV law and best practices Provide parent trainings on student and family rights Community Partnerships 14% Provide posters and literature to community agencies that serve families and children Partner with local organizations for donations and resources Partner with hotels Manage tutoring program for students
