Immediately Job Description General Definition of Work The family school advocate, under general supervision, performs skill-based work with minimal decision-making discretion serving as a liaison between the school, families at home and the community. Position works with stakeholders to develop a school level parent and family engagement policy, provide accessibility and opportunities for families to engage in their child's education and build capacity for parent and family leadership in the school. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Salary/Status Hourly NC 07B/ Full-time, 10 months Reports To Principal Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Work with all school personnel to promote an understanding of the value of parent/school partnerships Assist school personnel with building effective partnerships with families Engage parents and families in the development and understanding of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) Provide resources to parents and families to help them effectively support their children at home and at school Help parents and families understand curriculum standards and assessments Participate in the school's School Leadership Team (SLT) Organize a flexible number of curriculum-based programs and activities for family engagement (quarterly) Coordinate school-based activities with other district programs and initiatives Communicate with parents and families through a variety of means to ensure parents and families are informed of engagement opportunities Provide opportunities for parents and family members to volunteer, participate in and observe classroom activities Conduct or assist with home visits to support student attendance and resolution of home/school conflicts Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements Skilled in communication, both verbal and written Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public Ability to respond appropriately to situations while maintaining a professional and personable demeanor Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to take initiative and work independently Ability to perform detailed work, planning, risk assessments, and associated risk mitigation actions Ability to work with people from different backgrounds Ability to collect and analyze different types of student data (performance, attendance and discipline) Ability to develop programs to meet the diverse needs of all families Education and Experience Associate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with an emphasis on Education, Sociology or Psychology required Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in a related professional or educational setting Equivalent combination of education and experience
