Full-Time (10-12 Month Position) Position Overview The K-12 School Social Worker supports the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students to help ensure they are prepared to learn and succeed in school. This position works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to address barriers that may impact a student's academic success. The School Social Worker provides counseling, crisis intervention, family support, and connections to community resources while helping to foster a positive and supportive school environment. Key Responsibilities Student Support and Counseling Provide individual and small group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or family-related challenges. Support students in developing coping skills, conflict resolution strategies, emotional regulation, and positive peer relationships. Assist students dealing with issues such as anxiety, stress, grief, family transitions, or behavioral concerns. Family Engagement and Support Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies. Support families in accessing resources such as counseling services, housing assistance, food programs, healthcare, or other community supports. Provide guidance and support to families navigating school systems, behavioral concerns, and student support plans. Collaboration with School Staff Work closely with teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff to address student needs. Participate in student support meetings, MTSS/RTI teams, and intervention planning. Assist in developing and implementing behavior support plans and student intervention strategies. Crisis Intervention and Response Respond to student crises and provide immediate support when students experience emotional distress or traumatic events. Assist in developing safety and support plans for students in need. Collaborate with school leadership on crisis response and follow-up support. Attendance and Student Advocacy Support efforts to improve student attendance and address barriers contributing to chronic absenteeism. Conduct outreach to families when attendance concerns arise and help develop support plans to improve engagement. Community Partnerships Develop relationships with community organizations and mental health providers to support student needs. Connect students and families with outside services when additional support is necessary. Compliance and Documentation Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and services provided. Participate in IEP and 504 meetings when social, emotional, or environmental factors impact a student's learning. Ensure services and documentation align with school policies and state regulations. Professional Development and Prevention Support school-wide initiatives focused on student wellness, social-emotional learning, and positive behavior. Provide guidance and training for staff on supporting student mental health and social-emotional development. Help promote a school culture that values empathy, respect, and student well-being.
Qualifications Required:
Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) Valid state licensure or certification as a School Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), depending on state requirements Experience working with children, adolescents, and families Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed practices, and family systems
Preferred:
Experience working in a K-12 school setting Familiarity with
MTSS/RTI
frameworks Experience connecting families with community resources and support services Skills and Competencies Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families Effective crisis management and problem-solving abilities Strong organizational and documentation skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student advocacy Working Environment This role involves working with students individually and in groups, meeting with families, collaborating with school staff, and connecting with community partners. The School Social Worker may work across multiple grade levels and participate in school meetings and student support teams. Pay:
$40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
