JOB SUMMARY
The Head Start Family Service Worker serves as a vital link between families, the Head Start program, and community resources. This position is responsible for building strong partnerships with families, supporting parent engagement, and assisting families in achieving personal and family goals that promote self-sufficiency and child success. The Family Service Worker coordinates recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and family support services while ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. Through advocacy, resource coordination, home visits, and ongoing communication, the Family Service Worker helps remove barriers that may impact a child's educational success and overall family well-being. This role collaborates closely with teachers, administrators, and community agencies to support the comprehensive needs of children and families and to promote school readiness, family engagement, and positive outcomes for all enrolled children. This position reports to the Family Service Manager.
ESSENSTIAL DUTIES AND REPSONSIBLITIES
Develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with families. Complete Family Partnership Agreements and assist families in setting and achieving personal goals. Recruit, enroll, and determine eligibility for children and families in accordance with Head Start regulations. Monitor and support student attendance, conducting follow-up contacts and home visits as needed. Connect families with community resources and services. Conduct home visits when necessary and maintain regular communication with families. Promote and encourage parent involvement in classroom activities, family engagement events, and Policy Council Assist families in obtaining required health, dental, and social service supports. Advocate for children and families and collaborate with education, health, disabilities, and mental health staff to address identified needs. Maintain accurate and confidential records, documentation, and reports in ChildPlus and other program systems. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case management discussions, and transition planning activities. Respond to family crises and provide appropriate referrals and support services. Maintain knowledge of community resources and establish partnerships with local agencies. Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, program policies, and federal regulations. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the Head Start program. Coordinate with area NC-PreK program provides services to children who are dual enrolled in the NCPK program and Head Start, paperwork will be completed with the NCPK Coordinator.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May be assigned to provide classroom support and serve as a substitute for a Teacher Assistant or Teacher when necessary to ensure adequate classroom coverage and continuity of services. May provide child care and supervision for enrolled children during parent meetings, workshops, training sessions, family engagement activities, and other program events to support family participation and engagement. Performs other related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a related field required Experience working with children and families in a social service, educational, or community-based setting preferred. Knowledge of community resources and family support services. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish positive relationships with diverse populations. Proficiency in computer applications and data management systems. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written, is preferred. Valid driver's license.
