Band 3 Job overview We have an exciting opportunity to join our Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service in a new post. The role of a Peer Support Worker (PSW) within our CJL&D has been developed specifically for individuals who have recent lived experience of mental health difficulties and/or criminal justice services to support those coming into contact with our service. It is essential as part of this role the peer support worker uses their own lived experience of accessing mental health/criminal justice services. Peer Support Workers inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. You will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to patients in order for them to regain control over their health and wellbeing to lead meaningful lives and to develop their own unique recovery process. The Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service work with service users to support them to access services and live their best lives in the community. We do this by providing holistic assessments, signposting and ongoing support for our patient group. This role will primarily work to support those who have come into contact with CJL&D through either custody or the courts. This is an ideal 1st time opportunity to join an established service. This is a fixed-term 18-month contract. Main duties of the job Under the supervision of an experienced member of staff, you will support the delivery of our main service by providing emotional support to help people access services to meet their needs. Through sharing your own experience, you will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible, helping service users to feel more positively about their future. You will work under the supervision of the Team manager and will have access to support, training and supervision to enable development within the role. As this is a new role within our service, this offers the right candidate the opportunity to develop and shape Peer Support and will potentially offer developmental opportunities/career progression within LPFT. - Discounts on major high street retailers and restaurants Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Satisfactory level of secondary education to GCSE English A-C grade or 9-4 grade or equivalent (may be working toward this) Be able to demonstrate a good standard of English To have or be willing to enrol on a specific Peer Support Worker accredited course, eg through LPFT Reccovery College or with an accredited training providerwhen starting in post, complete and pass the training as part of your contract with LPFT Willingness to undertake further training to support development of peer support role Desirable criteria Mental Health or Health and Social Care related qualification Completion of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) or use of similar self-management techniques - Awareness/ability of how to adapt this to make it suitable to share within the work place Experience Essential criteria Recent Lived experience of mental health issues Recent Lived experience of mental health services Recent Lived experience of the CJS Experience of being in a supportive and enabling role Experience of operating in an environment that requires confidentiality Desirable criteria Experience of accessing specialist services Able to relate to a wide range of people across different organisational boundaries Skills Essential criteria Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills Ability and confidence to use a computer Ability to share personal story of recovery in a professional manner while working within appropriate guidelines Able to relate empathically with people Ability to assist people to develop their own recovery plans Willingness to promote the concept of recovery in all work carried out Ability to support people to make the best of local resources including support networks Willingness to reflect on work practice and be open to constructive feedback Able to manage conflict and support others to do so Able to demonstrate a patient, non-judgemental, respectful and compassionate attitude Ability to work collaboratively within a multi disciplinary team As an ethical recruiter we will not pursue applications from red list countries as defined by the World Health Organisation.
