District-Wide Administration Job Summary The Suicide Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the strategic development, coordination, implementation, and oversight of the District's comprehensive suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention plan. This position ensures compliance with all local, state (NH
RSA 193-J
), and federal guidelines related to youth suicide prevention and mental health. The Coordinator serves as the central resource and liaison for all suicide prevention efforts across the school district and with community partners.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, Public Health, or a related mental health or education field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in youth mental health, crisis intervention, or suicide prevention, preferably within a school or educational setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention strategies.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant New Hampshire laws and regulations concerning student mental health and suicide prevention (RSA 193-J).
  • Strong presentation, training, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate complex, sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative efforts with diverse stakeholders (school staff, students, parents, community agencies).
  • Certification in relevant training models (e.g., QPR, ASIST, or Mental Health First Aid Instructor) is a plus. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Program Development and Compliance
Develop and Review Plan:
Lead the biennial review and update of the District Suicide Prevention and Response Plan, ensuring it includes clear guidelines, protocols for prevention, risk assessment, intervention, and postvention, as required by NH state law.
    Policy Implementation:
    Coordinate the consistent implementation of the District's suicide prevention policies across all schools.
      Data and Evaluation:
      Collect, analyze, and use data on student mental health, suicidal ideation, attempts, and postvention efforts to inform program adjustments and measure effectiveness.
        Resource Management:
        Identify and secure external grant funding and community resources to support suicide prevention initiatives. 2. Training and Education
          Staff Training:
          Develop, coordinate, and deliver annual, evidence-informed suicide awareness and prevention training (minimum 2 hours) for all school faculty, staff, contracted personnel, and designated volunteers, covering risk factors, warning signs, protective factors, response procedures, referrals, and resources.
            Student Education:
            Collaborate with Building Liaisons and health/counseling staff to ensure the delivery of age-appropriate student education on safe choices, coping strategies, recognizing warning signs of mental health issues and suicide, and help-seeking strategies.
              Parent/Guardian Engagement:
              Provide informational resources, workshops, and communication to parents/guardians about youth suicide prevention and district protocols. 3. Intervention and Crisis Response
                Coordinate Protocol:
                Oversee the district-wide protocol for assessing and responding to students identified as being at an elevated risk for suicide, working closely with building-level contacts.
                  Postvention Response:
                  Lead the coordination of the District's response (postvention) following a student suicide or suicide attempt to minimize risk of contagion and provide appropriate support to the school community.
                    Liaison/Point of Contact:
                    Serve as the primary point of contact for significant suicide prevention and crisis matters, coordinating the work of the Building Suicide Prevention Liaisons. 4. Collaboration and Community Partnership
                      Community Coordination:
                      Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with local and state suicide prevention programs, mental health providers, and crisis intervention services (e.g., 988).
                        Referral Resources:
                        Ensure that current and comprehensive information regarding State and community crisis intervention and referral resources are annually updated and disseminated to students, parents, and staff (e.g., in student handbooks and on the District website).
                          Inter-Departmental Collaboration:
                          Work with Student Services, Administration, School Counselors, Nurses, and Psychologists to integrate suicide prevention efforts into a comprehensive student support system.
