Job Description

Job Description Summary The Accessibility Peer Mentor supports Saint Leo University's mission of assisting students with disabilities as they navigate academic and campus life. Acting as a peer role model, the mentor promotes independence, confidence, and engagement through informal guidance, companionship, and help accessing campus resources. Mentors do not perform instructional duties, complete academic work on behalf of students, or serve in a clinical or counseling capacity. The role is designed to create natural, student-led engagement that fosters belonging and self-advocacy.

Primary Responsibilities:
Attend regularly scheduled events, classes, meals, and study sessions with assigned mentee(s) Serve as a study partner and peer resource, helping mentees remain on task and build academic routines Support mentees in accessing campus services, including tutoring, advising, wellness, and extracurricular programs Attend at least two university-sponsored on-campus events with mentee(s) each semester Participate in pre-semester training prior to standard student move-in Attend ongoing training and weekly staff meetings throughout the academic year Provide general support to Accessibility Services and broader Student Affairs Division functions as assigned Model behavior consistent with the

Required:
Full-time enrollment in a Saint Leo University undergraduate or graduate program Good academic and judicial standing throughout employment Demonstrated ability to work independently and uphold professional boundaries Commitment to inclusivity and support for students with diverse needs, including autism spectrum disorder and/or developmental disabilities Consistent demonstration of
Saint Leo's Core Values Preferred:
Background or coursework in education, psychology, social work, or related human services fields Prior experience in peer support roles (e.g., tutor, RA, orientation leader) Involvement in university clubs, organizations, or student leadership Familiarity with ADA principles and disability-inclusive practices
Work Environment:
This role takes place on campus and may include walking long distances, navigating crowded spaces, and participating in various campus settings.
Mentors are expected to:
Communicate professionally in person, by phone, and electronically Move frequently throughout campus Use various tools and equipment for academic or social engagement Occasionally lift up to 10 pounds Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with the ADA to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
