RESPONSIBILITIES
The School Social Worker is an integral part of the team who ensures that every student receives the support needed to overcome hurdles that may negatively impact his/her success and social-emotional well-being. The School Social Worker works with our entire community, including faculty, staff, students, families, and administrators, to ensure that every student has the support and tools necessary to be successful.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide individual and small group counseling to address personal, interpersonal, emotional, and academic challenges Create a proactive counseling program that prevents crises and utilizes innovative intervention strategies to support academic success Provide crisis counseling to students and families as needed Use evidence-based practices to effectively develop short-term treatment and intervention plans for students Work closely with students, faculty, staff, and families to ensure they understand the needs of their student/child and how to implement appropriate accommodations, including behavior intervention plans. Cultivate relationships with community partners that can help support the students, the families, and the school Accurately complete all paperwork related to provided services in a timely manner as mandated by New York State and school policies and procedures. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NYS Certification in School Social Work Licensed Master Social Worker required Prefer experience working with individuals with significant social-emotional needs or developmental delays Strong clinical skills and experience providing crisis intervention and short-term counseling to children Exceptional relationship building skills Ability to work compassionately with children and families experiencing trauma A commitment to meeting the needs of every student A strong belief that all students can succeed
