Job Description
This is a professional counseling position assigned to the Office of Crisis Intervention Services' Person in Crisis (PIC) Team responsible for leading emergency crisis responses to emergency calls which include, but are not limited to: mental health (crisis, suicide), substance abuse, and domestic violence and family disputes. This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title. A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION.
Responds to emergency calls, which include, but are not limited to: mental health (crisis, suicide), substance abuse, domestic violence, and family disputes; Conducts formal assessments of the needs for the affected individuals and their families; Utilizes crisis intervention and counseling techniques to aid individuals experiencing a crisis; Manages and oversees an immediate support plan for each affected individual and their family; Organizes and coordinates all information on applicable and available services and partner agencies to respond to needs for affected individuals; Connects affected individuals with appropriate services and follows through until a hand off to a fixed support system can be confirmed; Records the information of affected individuals and other relevant data for reporting; Prepares reports, case notes, and documentation following each emergency call; Works in partnership with law enforcement and first responders during and after the emergency; Handles confidential information in accordance with HIPAA, state and federal confidentiality rules. High School Diploma or Equivalent;PLUS:
1. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field; PLUS one (1) year of paid experience (full-time or part-time equivalent) in crisis intervention or direct service to vulnerable populations; OR 2. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field; PLUS three (3) years of paid experience (full-time or part-time equivalent) as described in 1.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
