With 50 innovative programs, FSW serves 30,000 individuals annually in Westchester County, New York, here to create hope, restore dignity and connect families with the resources to get back on track. Founded in 1954, Family Services of Westchester is a private, nonprofit, non-sectarian social services agency. FSW's Head Start/Early Head Start is a federal government program that was created in 1965 to give preschool children from low-income families a "head start" on their readiness for elementary school.
JOB SUMMARY
Family Services of Westchester is looking for a Full-Time Family Advocate for our Head Start program in Yonkers, NY.RESPONSIBILITES
Identify and recruit eligible families and conduct thorough intakes to ensure maximum enrollment Build trusting relationships with families using a strengths based approach while maintaining cultural responsiveness Ensure accurate completion of all documentation, enter all information into the database Coordinate family engagement activities and parent committee meetings and provide families with referrals to community resources based on goals Effectively communicate with families, staff, management and community partnersREQUIREMENTS EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Counseling or Family Development CredentialEXPERIENCE
3+ years' experience in social, human, or family services in early childhood programs such as Head Start/Early Head Start, implementing comprehensive family services for young children and families from diverse backgrounds. SKILLS Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer (Microsoft word, excel, etc.) and office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax machine, and copier; Requires effective writing and oral communication skills to conduct meetings and training sessions, and to prepare reports that are clear, complete, comprehensive; Knowledge of family-centered practices and local resources, customs, and language is helpful. Ability to know and implement the Head Start Performance Standards and requirements Ability to exercise professional judgment in evaluating before making decisions, Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children, parents, outside agencies, and the public, Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times, including recognizing situations in which confidentiality is required, Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, challenging, and constantly changing environment.
