High School Equivalency Coordinator Project Learn of Summit County Akron, OH Job Details Part-time $24 - $26 an hour 2 hours ago Benefits Life insurance Qualifications Teaching math Bachelor's degree Teacher coaching Literacy education Organizational skills Teaching science Teaching Adult education Teaching social studies Full Job Description Primary Purpose and Function Develop and maintain an engaging curriculum appropriate for an adult education audience, aligned with resources and standards from the Ohio Department of Higher Education's Aspire office. Train and support the high school equivalency instructional staff (literacy, Adult Basic Education, and Adult Secondary Education) in alignment with the agency's goals, expectations, and philosophies. Conduct site visits and provide supportive feedback to instructors. Inventory sites for instructional materials, technology, and supplies. Teach in instructional groups and support students in achieving their educational goals. Review student progress using student portfolios and assessments. Work with Project Learn staff to support and retain students. Substitute teach as needed. Comply with all Project Learn of Summit County and Ohio Department of Higher Education Aspire policies, procedures, and grant requirements.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Support and Professional Development:
- Conduct quarterly site visits and instructor observations using the evaluation rubric
- Strengthen instructor effectiveness through coaching, observation, and other appropriate methods
- Conduct instructor in-service training
- Assist teachers with problem-solving classroom issues, needs, and requests
- Inventory instructional materials, technology, and supplies at sites
- Develop and maintain curriculum, including topics that support current adult educational trends (i.e., aligning to HSE resources, DEI, digital literacy, career development)
- Recommend and implement teaching strategies and technologies
- Assist in the interviewing of HSE instructor candidates
- Disseminate pertinent program information to teachers and Project Learn staff via email updates or the agency newsletter
Learner Progress, Advancement, and Retention:
- Teach small group classes in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, life skills, and other appropriate subjects
- Utilize various instructional strategies to engage learners
- Develop and utilize lesson plans per the Ohio Department of Higher Education lesson plan requirements
- Maintain accurate attendance records for each class
- Manage portfolios and ongoing assessments for each student in the class, which includes goal setting, learner progress, and advancement
- Utilize assigned instructional volunteers in the classes
- Work with the Recruitment and Retention Specialist and Student Engagement Coordinator to monitor student progress and follow up with students who have left the program
- Provide statistics for research and evaluation
Fund Development:
- Participate in fund development activities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Special Projects:
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Director of Programming & Strategy and Executive Director.
Professional Development:
- Attend local, state, and/or national conferences related to adult literacy, assessment, cultural awareness and sensitivity, and/or social services administration
