Job Description

Job Goal:
The Preschool Promise Instructional Support Coach responds to coaching requests and referrals to provide reflective and relationship-based coaching to both teachers and instructional leaders, while also pro-actively supporting the implementation of Preschool Promise. This position serves as a coach to early educators in family and center based childcare settings, school districts and other early education programs to meet program, classroom and teacher goals, best practice standards and increase the level of job-embedded professional development, collaborative routines and instructional leadership.

The Preschool Promise Instructional Coach shall support the implementation and continuous quality improvement of Preschool Promise in partnership with early education programs granted funds to participate in Preschool Promise. The Coach will provide intensive and individualized consultation and coaching in accordance with the Preschool Promise program expectations, Preschool Promise Policies and Procedures and Preschool Promise Manual.
Essential Responsibilities:
Creates ongoing trusting relationships with early education programs and a range of educators to develop the most conducive environment for learning, reflection and establish collaborative coaching relationshipsArticulates and facilitates understanding of Preschool Promise program expectations, especially in the areas of Supportive Environments and Ambitious Instruction, Continuous Quality Improvement, Leadership with Knowledge, and Inclusionary PracticesDelivers regular PSP Group Network and one-on-one coaching sessions to educators and instructional leaders of Preschool Promise programs, following the Oregon Early Learning Coaching Guidelines and employees specific coaching strategies to engage teachers and instructional leadersUtilizes reflective practices with Preschool Promise programs to facilitate goal setting, data evaluation, and observation feedback.

Supports for continuous quality improvement in practice especially around Preschool Promise Program Expectations, NAEYC Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and implementation of best practices in early learning, inclusion, dual language learning and social/emotional developmentConducts regular direct observations of coachee in practice using formal and informal tools, and provides feedback and modeling to support the coachee for successUses technology to support Preschool Promise programs and coachees through video review, feedback, resource sharing and coordinating peer feedback.

In partnership with Preschool Promise administrators and teachers, creates goals, action steps and identifies available resources through engaged data dialogues and reflective conversations.

Supports Preschool Promise programs in their use of data to create program and early educator goals.

Provides materials, resources and recommendations to strengthen practice implementation and reach set coaching goalsServes as a resource in identifying appropriate research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve outcomes for Preschool Promise children and families.

Uses coaching data to help inform training and technical assistance plans with Preschool Promise Specialists.

Participates in ongoing coaching provided by DELC, ELSI and others as assigned for PSP coaches
Education Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field (Education, Human Development, Child and Family Studies, or Social Work);OR A Step 10 on the Oregon Registry Online with coursework in age three to five development or the ability to obtain a Step 10 in the Oregon Registry Online within 12 months of hire.
Experience and Skills Requirements:
2 or more years of experience in an early childhood program with a focus on preschoolKnowledge of how children birth to five learn within the context of ongoing, meaningful relationships with important adults in their livesA thorough understanding of the needs of preschool children, their families, and those who work with themKnowledge of how programs engage families in partnershipsStrong knowledge of effective teaching practices2 years of experience providing Technical Assistance and training, including coaching, to early education programs, providing classroom observations and/or home visits to families with young childrenExperience supporting the primacy of families, their home languages, and their cultures, and an understanding of how to engage themKnowledge of inclusive practices in preschool programsKnowledge of how to best support the early learning workforce in all types of program settingsEffective techniques of adult learning and relationship-based coaching practicesAble to obtain Oregon Early Learning Coaching Certificate (when available)Knowledge of early learning quality assessment tools, including:

Classroom Assessment Scoring Scale (CLASS)Environmental Rating Scale(ERS) (specifically, Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale-3 and Family Child Care Environments Rating Scale Program Assessment Scale (PAS)Knowledge of child assessment and screening tools, including:

Teaching Strategies GoldTeaching Pyramid Observation ToolAges and Stages QuestionnaireAges and Stages Questionnaire-Social EmotionalExperience in certified child care centers, certified or registered family child care programs, and/or licensed preschool settings is preferred.
General Staff Responsibilities:

Other Requirements:
Must possess excellent planning, organization, and time management skills, and the capacity to build collaborative partnerships with stakeholders, and provide services that are culturally competent and appropriate to the needs of the target audience.

Must be able to perform independently the duties of the position efficiently and effectively. Requires the ability to communicate formally and informally with a wide range of contacts and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, empathy, and friendliness in dealing with people under stressful conditions, either by phone, email, and/ or in person. Must be able to work respectfully with and maintain congenial and respectful relations with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities; including staff, children, families, and community.

Must possess the skills and ability to use equipment necessary to carry out job responsibilities (e.g. computer and virtual training software, cell/telephone, facsimile machine, projectors, digital cameras, and video recorders).Must be able to travel throughout the region and to other required opportunities, including overnight and/or on weekends.

Work Environment/Conditions:
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, as well as in an outdoor environment (exposure to weather). The noise level varies by sites and meetings.
