Purpose of Position:
This position will have a high degree of integrity, sustain a culture of continuous improvement, and be committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment while having a growth mindset to a multi-faceted operation while having a focus on creating a positive work culture.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Completes initial IEP evaluation and program in the Centrally Coordinated IEP Evaluation System (CCIES) for preschool children. Conducts assessments as part of initial IEP evaluations. Serves as special education teacher or related services staff member, IEP chairperson and Local Education Agency (LEA) Representative on IEP evaluations, programming, and placement. Facilitate IEP meetings, coordinates with families, school staff, community preschool and agency staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to
Perform Essential Job Functions:
Skilled in oral and written communication, use of computerized programs specific to IDEA and assessment scoring and interpretation. Fluent in Spanish or other non-English Languages. Knowledgeable of Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and child development to inform the IEP evaluation and program. Skilled in functional behavioral assessments and able to create behavior intervention plans utilizing positive behavioral interventions. Skilled in diagnostic teaching for students receiving early childhood services. Provides Professional Development on topical areas or individual students as documented in the IEP, models best practices, provide peer coaching and responds to staff/parent questions on IDEA policy and procedures. Ability to participate on District committees, project teams, staff development. Skilled in serving as LEA Representative on difficult or highly contentious cases. Required Qualifications:
Minimum of three years' experience as a special education teacher and/or speech and language clinician. Holds a Master's Degree or is working toward completion of a Master's Degree. Possess valid driver's license and have vehicle to travel to itinerant sites.
License or Certification Requirements:
Dept. of Public Instruction license in early childhood special education. The incumbent must have a current license or obtain a license within a timeframe determined by the District. Early Childhood (EC)
Itinerant Teacher Purpose of Position:
Teach and support preschool children with a variety of disabilities (e.g., SDD, OHI, Traumatic Brain Injury, Autism, etc.) in natural environments, classrooms, and community based settings. Work as a team member with central office and building based administration, general education teachers, related service staff, special education assistants, school support staff, parents, and community childcare providers. Instruct and monitor special education assistants. Assess the overall development of children, use developmentally appropriate practices, develop appropriate individual educational plans (IEPs), conduct reevaluations as assigned, and provide modifications and accommodations as necessary.

Teach in a variety of environments, classrooms, and community based settings. Work as a collaborative team member with MMSD and community professionals. Instruct and monitor special education assistants and related staff. Assess the overall development of children, use appropriate formal and informal assessments to monitor progress, develop individual educational plans (IEPs) using the GoIDEA system, and conduct reevaluations. Participate in ongoing professional development activities. Recruit and manage peer models. Work with other IEP team participants to design, implement, and evaluate Individual Education Plans. Work in collaboration with child-care providers and school support staff in designing and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices for a wide range of preschool children. Teach and provide instruction in natural environments (e.g., Headstart, day care, home, nursery school, preschools) as well as in a variety of other environments. Develop strategies to foster social relationships between preschool children with and without disabilities. Provide verbal and written instruction, monitoring, and consultation to special education assistants. Communicate progress to parents, other teachers, related services staff, special education assistants, administrators, and/or other appropriate individuals. Evaluate program effectiveness on a continuing and annual basis and revise programming as appropriate. Conduct functional behavioral assessments and create behavior intervention plans utilizing positive behavioral interventions for children with challenging behaviors. Work with kindergarten and elementary school staff to effectively transition children moving to kindergarten. Participate in on-going professional development activities. Use preschool performance standards to inform the individual education program. Support practicum students and/or student teachers. Establish and maintain rapport with children. Knowledgeable of Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards to inform the individual education program. Skilled in the assessment and use of assistive technology. Ability to be a creative and flexible problem-solver who is able to work in collaboration with others. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in early childhood special education. Possess valid driver's license and have vehicle to travel to itinerant sites.
License or Certification Requirements:
Possess a valid DPI license in Early Childhood Special Education. The incumbent must have a current license or obtain a license within a timeframe determined by the District. Physical Requirements:
Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time. Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
Working Conditions:
Work may require travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings. Position may require working evenings, nights, and some weekends. Certain positions within the District may allow hybrid work flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit.
