Aug 24, 2026 Job Description We are seeking a part-time Cultural Liaison to join our Summit Learning Charter team. This role will be dedicated to supporting our Somali student population. This role is designed for an individual who can act as a vital bridge between our students, families, and school staff, fostering an inclusive environment that honors diverse cultural identities. The successful candidate will ensure equitable access to education and help build a welcoming school community through effective communication and collaboration. About Summit Learning Charter Summit Learning Charter began in 2008 and has experienced continuous growth, currently serving over 1,450 students. We are a K-12 blended virtual school sponsored by the Estacada School District. Our mission is to provide a flexible, personalized, and rigorous education that combines innovative online learning with meaningful in-person opportunities. General Description The part-time Cultural Liaison position facilitates communication between diverse families and school staff to promote inclusion and understanding. This position focuses on engaging designated language-speaking families (specifically Somali-speaking) to keep them informed about school activities and student progress. You will support students in adapting to the school environment, resolve misunderstandings, and provide guidance on cultural sensitivity to ensure all students can thrive. Duties and Responsibilities
Family Engagement:
Schedule weekly individual Zoom meetings with Somali-speaking parents to review student progress and school activities.
Student Support:
Check student progress daily and reach out to families if a student has not attended or studied the previous day.
Resource Navigation:
Partner with organizations to help families navigate resources for food, health, and rent assistance.
Translation & Interpretation:
Create translations for school documents and provide interpretation services for parents and staff.
Collaboration:
Participate in weekly EL team meetings and assist teachers/advisers in communicating concerns to non-English-speaking parents.
Community Events:
Conduct monthly parent meetings with the EL Director and assist with local in-person meetings in the Gresham and Eagle Creek areas. Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Language Skills:
Bi-lingual in Solmali is required, Arabic and other languages a benefit. Must be proficient in reading, writing, listening, and speaking the designated language.
Experience:
Proven experience working with culturally diverse families and communities, specifically within the education process.
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with productivity suites (MS Office/Google), virtual meeting platforms (Zoom).
Requirements:
Must possess reliable transportation source for occasional driving to off-site events. The ability to pass a background check is mandatory. Location:
Hybrid (Secure Home Office and School Campus in Eagle Creek, OR).
Site Requirements:
In our hybrid environment, staff are required to be on-site at the Eagle Creek campus 2-3 days per week depending on assignments. Schedule, Compensation & Benefits This is an employment opportunity with Summit Learning Charter.
Duration:
192 Days for the 26/27 School Year- 4 hours per workday.
Starting Salary:
$20.24/hour (dependent upon verified years of experience).
Location:
Hybrid between Eagle Creek school campus and home office, with 2-3 days on campus each week.
Time Off:
2.5 Personal Days, 40 hours of sick time.

Retirement:
