Family Outreach Coordinator () Position type: Part-time position (5-10 hours/week) Hybrid role - primarily virtual with in-person meetings and events. Evening and weekend work for fundraising and member events
Compensation:
$25-$28/hour, based on experience
Position Summary:
The Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT) is a nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas, dedicated to improving the lives of people with Down syndrome. We offer programs, resources, and support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, as well as training for educators, medical professionals, and community groups. We also support medical research and postsecondary educational opportunities and are committed to advocating for the disability community at the local, state, and national levels. The Family Outreach Coordinator is a part-time, hourly position that reports to the Executive Director (ED) and collaborates closely with the other team members. This role oversees our New Parent Program, family outreach for existing DSACT families, and our Spanish-speaking social group, Comité Latino. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who thrives in a small, dynamic team, and excels at managing multiple projects independently while collaborating effectively with the DSACT team.
Roles & Responsibilities:
New Parent Outreach:
Manage DSACT's New Parent Program, including sending welcome resources and packages to new families, and coordinating parent-to-parent connections through our New Parent Guide network. Maintain a consistent follow-up communication system to ensure new families feel supported at the beginning of their journey. Oversee New Parent Therapy Groups, working with a Licensed Professional Counselor to schedule two support groups annually. Plan and host regular social events for new families to help build early community connections.
Spanish-Language Outreach:
Manage DSACT's Spanish-speaking social group, Comité Latino, ensuring a consistent schedule of social events and ongoing communication with parent leaders. Create and distribute Spanish-language communications, including email updates, social media posts, and translations of materials such as newsletters and program information. Respond to inquiries and support requests from Spanish-speaking families, providing guidance or connecting them with the appropriate resources.
Existing Family Outreach:
Serve as a primary point of contact for family inquiries, providing accurate information, referrals, and support across a wide range of topics. Research community resources throughout Central Texas and collaborate with DSACT parents to share relevant information with families. Develop and maintain a system for proactively reaching out to families individually to keep them informed about programs, resources, and community updates.
Qualifications & Demonstrated Skills:
Bilingual in English and Spanish is required. Relevant experience in family support, social services, community engagement, nonprofit work, or a related field. Experience working with individuals with disabilities and familiarity with topics such as special education systems and Texas waivers preferred. Reliable transportation is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect and build trust across diverse communities. The ideal candidate would be open to sharing and trying new ideas, a team player, a self-starter, compassionate, and personable.
