Established in 1992, ChildSafe is a nonprofit organization created to combat child sexual abuse in our community. Serving as Bexar County's only Children's Advocacy Center (CAC), we provide a continuum of care
  • including crisis management, case management, counseling and support services to child abuse survivors and their non-offending family members.
The goals of the agency and its multidisciplinary partners include the following: a recorded forensic interview; ensure the coordination of appropriate and thorough investigation and prosecution of sexual and physical abuse and neglect cases with public and private agencies; provide crisis intervention and on-going counseling; provide public education and professional training; and advocate for the child and family during the investigative process.
Essential Job Function:
Under the supervision of the Director of Family Services, the Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for greeting all children and non-offending family members as they enter the facility and develop age-appropriate activities for the clients as they wait for appointments.
Skills Needed:
As a trauma-focused agency, success in this position requires a high degree of sensitivity and subtlety when interacting with the families that we serve. Effective communication skills are required and the language used with clients must be thoughtful and intentional. Additionally, due to the nature of the position, the ability to multi-task in a high energy environment is critical.
Experience/Education Required:
  • Some college or associate's degree is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with child abuse and/or neglect victims preferred.
  • Advanced training in trauma and/or crisis management preferred.
  • Experience in childcare and following and creating curriculums for varying age ranges.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
  • Ability to organize a variety of tasks.
  • Effective schedule coordination and time management skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities highly desirable.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and CPS registry check
Responsibilities:
  • Provide supervision for children and non-offending family members during their scheduled appointments in both Family & Children Waiting Area and Counseling lobby.
  • Assist in development of interesting, relevant, and safe activities for clients.
  • Maintain program readiness including supplies, organization of the waiting area, and materials.
  • Communicate from a trauma sensitive viewpoint and maintain behavior management with the same framework.
  • Communicate with clinical and forensic interview staff regarding shared clients.
  • Communicate daily successes and shortcomings with supervisor, Family Engagement Coordinator, to help maintain program growth.
  • Communicate safety concerns or incidents to Director of Client Services in an urgent manner.
  • Submit Incident Reports within 24 hours to Director of Client Services.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment for clients.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the mission, core values and vision of ChildSafe and children's advocacy model.
  • Support training for staff, interns, and volunteers, as needed.
  • Assist with front desk coverage and administrative duties as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and other community meetings as assigned.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule as needed to support ChildSafe's services.
  • Perform data entry as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
  • High traffic environment with near constant client interaction
  • Moderate to high volume of noise
  • Must be able to transition to and from sitting on the floor and standing repeatedly
  • Needs to move about the building to access cabinets, files, supplies, office machinery including computers, copiers and printers
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (
EG:
copiers and printers)
  • Will occasionally ascend/descend ladder to retrieve client files
  • Frequently lifts supplies, food, and clothing weighing up to 30 pounds
Hours/Shifts:
The family Engagement Specialist is a full-time, salary/exempt position. After hours and weekends for agency-related activities may be required. Shifts will be established within the following hours of operation: Monday
  • Thursday:
    8:00 am
  • 8:00 pm
Friday:
8:00 am
  • 4:00 pm
