In support of our mission and statement on diversity, we seek a qualified Classroom Assistant to work within our Pre-elementary Montessori classrooms. Floating Classroom Assistants are scheduled to work Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. as 10-month employees, with some optional work available during Summer Break. Schedule and hours will vary while supporting the extended care program during school closures. The primary responsibilities of this position include classroom management/overview, preparing the environment, supporting various teachers, and supervising students in afterschool care. The wage range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00 per hour, and placement within that range is based upon experience. The first day of work will be Monday, August 24 for in-service to attend meetings, complete training, and prepare student spaces before the first day of school.
Examples of Daily Tasks Include:
Communicate with Staff Coordinator about schedule and classroom assignment Prepare and organize materials for student work Refill and maintain needed supplies such as pencils, paper, and glue bottles Organize and care for classroom materials Overview the classroom, redirect students, and help maintain a peaceful work environment Support the teacher and utilize transitions/downtime to accomplish classroom tasks Supervise students in before and after-school care
Qualifications:
Minimum 18 years old Minimum 2 years of experience in a childcare or early childhood education setting High School Diploma or GED required ECE Initial Certificate or equivalent required (can be completed within 5 years of hire) Desirable traits include a warm disposition, confidence and kindness when working with children, professionalism, and taking initiative in handling responsibilities. Effective communication and adaptability are key for this role as staffing needs dictate the daily schedule and the work is with multiple classrooms/teachers who have unique needs.
Requirements:
Health and Safety trainings can be completed upon hire, costs reimbursed by the school: o Pediatric, Child, and Adult CPR/AED and First Aid training o Bloodborne Pathogens training o Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect o Medication Management o Student Boundaries training o WA State Food Worker Card o 30 STARS hours of Child Care Basics or equivalent Provide results of a one-step Mantoux TB skin test prior to starting work or provide written proof of a negative test result within the past twelve months. Positive results require documentation of treatment or a negative chest x-ray. Supply proof of MMR vaccination, proof of immunity through antibody titer, a healthcare provider's attestation of infection sufficient to provide immunity, or documentation of medical/religious exemption. Complete a Portable Background Check through DCYF and submit fingerprinting as required. Ability to lift 30 lbs. overhead and to move freely while supervising and engaging in indoor and outdoor activities with students.
