Job Description
Facilities Maintenance Coordinator About Our School Harbor Montessori is an accredited Montessori school serving children from infant through junior high across two campuses (Gig Harbor and Port Orchard). Our programs emphasize independence, respect, and a carefully prepared environment that supports hands-on, meaningful learning. Position Overview Help us care for a school where the environment is part of the education. The Facilities Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for the full scope of day-to-day maintenance across two Montessori campuses located in Gig Harbor and Port Orchard. This is a highly independent, self-directed role with no onsite maintenance staff, requiring strong judgment, organization, and the ability to manage priorities across multiple sites. The role works in coordination with contracted vendors, including bi-monthly landscaping support and specialty service providers. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. Because many maintenance tasks cannot be completed safely while children are present, the role requires flexibility to work outside of school hours, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends. The position offers a high degree of autonomy in scheduling work. The ideal candidate is resourceful, dependable, and comfortable working independently while maintaining strong communication with staff and vendors. Key Responsibilities Perform general maintenance and repairs (plumbing, electrical, building systems, playground equipment, technology) Inspect and maintain classroom furniture, materials and fixtures Address minor plumbing and repair issues (clogs, leaks, etc.) Conduct monthly fire safety inspections and coordinate required compliance checks Identify and address safety hazards across both campuses Support landscaping, seasonal grounds care, and snow/ice removal Coordinate vendors (HVAC, fire systems, roofing, septic, etc.) Track, prioritize and complete maintenance requests Maintain inspection, repair, and service documentation Manage school-issued credit card for approved purchases, including receipt tracking, monthly expense reporting, and budget forecasting support Conduct basic vehicle maintenance and inspections Maintain tools and supply inventory Support campus setup, events, and seasonal transitions Work collaboratively with staff and maintain a respectful presence around children Occasionally assist with small, hands-on classroom projects with students Qualifications Experience in facilities maintenance or a related field Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and building systems Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work independently across two campuses Clear communication and collaborative mindset Comfort working in a school environment with children of all ages Familiarity with Google Workspace or willingness to learn Alignment with Montessori values (respect, independence, care of the environment) Ability to pass required background check Have a negative TB test Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Valid driver's license and reliable transportation between campuses Ability to independently prioritize and complete day-to-day maintenance tasks within established budgets, policies, and safety guidelines. Flexibility to occasionally work outside school hours as needed Compensation & Benefits $25.55-$27.55 /hour depending on experience Full-time, year-round position Paid time off: 25 days of paid leave over the course of the year (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2027). Leave includes personal days, sick days, and vacation days.
