Bilingual External Union Organizer

About us: The Service Employees International Union Local 925 (SEIU 925) nearly 20,000 working people united to improve our jobs and our communities. We are education workers and public sector workers across Washington state. We are childcare providers, K-12 classified staff, higher education workers, public defenders, and county employees. Applicants should have a passion for building power with workers, organizing, and the mission of SEIU Local 925. This position will be based out of Central or Eastern Washington (Yakima/Tri-Cities/Spokane) as part of a statewide campaign with regular travel including to our Seattle office. Proficiency in Spanish is required for this position. A driver's license, vehicle insurance, and a car are required.

Purpose :

To carry out organizing, to take responsibility for major campaigns and to act in a leadership role with respect to other staff; to perform advanced training for organizers and staff; and to design and implement organizing which meets the goals of Local 925.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Organizer performs a wide range of duties, which may vary according to location, as well as the duties listed below. Design, manage, and organize large organizing campaigns, either external or internal. Develop and conduct programs related to organizing, for example, GOTV or literature for large Campaigns, or state wide multi-unit projects. Recruiting and training Organizing Committee members, member organizers and other staff, leadership development of bargaining unit members. Identify, assess, and recommend organizing targets. Community support work related to an organizing campaign. Direct negotiations on bargaining unit determinations and election procedures; work with NLRB and state agencies. Strike support work, including member actions, pressure on employers, and community support. Direct negotiations on bargaining unit determinations and election procedures; work with NLRB and state agencies. Economic research for organizing, negotiations and strike support. Participate in public policy activity, such as legislative and political work. Direct negotiations on bargaining unit determinations and election procedures; work with NLRB and state agencies. Limited servicing during an organizing or contract campaign, such as handling grievances and ULPS. Maintaining and updating unit lists. May design and implement staff training. May coordinate and direct staff. May coordinate affiliation and merger discussions. May assist in the evaluation of staff performance while that work is performed under the direction of a division director. Other related duties as assigned.

Language Requirement:

To effectively serve our diverse member base , applicants must be fluent in Spanish. This is a required qualification, as the position involves regular communication with community members who primarily speak Spanish.
