Prevention Educator/Victim Advocate Morgantown, WV 26505 $18 an hour
  • Full-time $18 an hour
Full-time Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position provides prevention education programs about physical and sexual violence in the communities and schools within our tri-county service area of Monongalia, Preston, & Taylor. Our prevention programs are established, evidence-based, and geared to address issues of sexual assault, stalking, dating, & domestic violence. Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and conduct community education/prevention throughout Monongalia, Preston and Taylor Counties to increase awareness of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and related crimes.
  • Coordinate prevention programs in the schools.
  • Organize and maintain resources used by staff.
  • Provide training for other staff on primary prevention,
  • Develop speaker's outlines and a Prevention Education Manual for use by staff.
  • Provide public information displays about RDVIC services and issues.
  • Provide a comprehensive monthly report on prevention education activities.
  • Provide crisis counseling and advocacy when necessitated by agency workload.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
General:
Understand and abide by RDVIC's Confidentiality Policy at all times and respect boundaries. Demonstrate a commitment to treat residents, volunteers, and co-workers respectfully at all times. Participate in all aspects of Residential service delivery. Assist participants with the completion of responsibilities involving community living and household skills, as necessary. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and residential case conferences to provide and receive input for program development. Attend a minimum of 8 hours of training of approved victim service training a year. Assist with training and supervision of volunteers and interns. Agree to work a flexible schedule when required, which may include changing shifts to ensure 24-hour Shelter or Residential coverage, due to illness, absence, or vacation of other staff members. Complete special projects and presentations as requested. Complete other duties as assigned.
  • One-year minimum experience providing crisis intervention, victim advocacy, or working with volunteers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, in a self-motivated manner, and also as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
  • A valid driver's license and a working. insured vehicle required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field required
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Combination of work experience and education may be considered equivalent.
